Post by Cecelia Reinhardt on May 12, 2016 17:12:27 GMT -5
Cecelia's attention was drawn to the dark haired Slytherin who piped up. It caused Cece to smile lightly, approving of her answer and responding with a nod; "Correct, Delilah Vizztail ." She stated simply, having no qualms with her students answering the questions without raising their hands. It helped the lesson move on quickly enough. "As Delilah accurately pointed out, the leaves and blossoms contain properties that can be used in a number of potions. But as of this moment, we are unable to reap the benefits of this fruit, because as stated there are no leaves to use - and the blossoms inside will too be undeveloped." As she spoke, a couple more students arrived. She noted them all but chose not to call them out for their tardy behavior - for the lesson had just begun and the castle was big enough to allow leniency in order for students to get from one side of the school to the other. "For those who have just arrived, we will be reviewing shrivelfigs - and if there is time, I'd like to teach you a spell that can promote the growth of plants, otherwise known as the herbivicus charm." She answered Jax as well as regarding the whole class.
The Professor could here the murmur of talking going on in the class room and turned to Dale when he addressed the situation. She tried not to smile in light amusement at his concern over them disrupting her class and kept on a poised composure as the Ravenclaw continued, "Thank you, Dale Roberts , but I think that while they may be late to other classes, this is the first they've arrived here just after the hour of lesson starting. I would however, appreciate if you guys kept the chatter down, at least until I've explained the rest of the lesson." She glanced over the faces who arrived late but didn't appear too scolding. There was no use getting angry, having the students see her riled would only lead them to thinking she couldn't manage the class, "I've just a few more points to go over before the practical side starts. Then so long as you're focused on the task I'm quite--"
Out of the corner of Cecelia's eye she spotted Jax aim a wad of gum towards Dale. She didn't know whether it landed into its target but regardless, she wasn't happy. Her eyes snapped to the Slytherin and a sharper tone escaped her lips; "10 points from Slytherin, Jax Stevens ! I do not recall allowing any form of confectionery in my greenhouse nor did I request your wand to be out without my permission. Cadence Strife ," she addressed the Gryffindor boy who had been silent for most of the lesson. Hopefully separating Jax from the girls he had associated himself with in the lesson would prevent him from withdrawing his wand to use any spells against another student. "If you wouldn't mind switching places with Mr. Stevens, in hopes he can focus on his work rather than trying to get into trouble." She really didn't fancy being harsh on her students, but there was no place of bulling in her classroom.
"So, this charm of herbivicus. You may all be thinking, 'why do I need to learn about a charm that helps plants grow when I can just buy a potion to make it grow?'. Well, the herbivicus charm can have the power to defend yourself against certain creatures, like lobalugs. In order to give you all a demonstration..." Cecelia withdraw her wand and pointed it at a shrivelfig she had infront of her. "Herbivicus!" She chanted with confidence, a bolt of energy escaping the tip of her wand to form a glowing orb whilst another little orb flitted towards the shrivelfig. An emerald light connected the two orbs, like an enchanted rope sending energy from one to the other. Almost instantly, the shrivelfig began to shudder slightly before blossoming leaves, the purple colour brightening to a more vibrant lilac. Lowering her wand, Cecelia replaced her wand,
"Now with permission I allow you all to withdraw your wands." Her tone was slightly indignant, "And remember, herbivicus. Clearly and well pronounced. I want you all to try the spell and once you have succeeded, I want you to jot a few notes down onto some parchment about the before and after differences. How has it changed in colour, is the plant firmer than before? Note down anything you notice in terms of change."
OOC: ooof, sorry my reply was late guys and if I missed anything that happened between the characters. here's a wiki link to the spell so yah, hehe felt a practical can give them all a chance to natter ;D

He liked where he was but he got up to switch anyway. He had not took his eyes off from under his desk for much but the small bit of interaction that was going on between a few of his class mates almost bordered on hilarious really. None the less he got up and made his way over to Jax Stevens"Come on, get up, I don't have all day." He was not trying to be rude, he just did not want to stand around all day.

He smiled up at Cadence "An excuse me would have sufficed. He mumbled as he walked over to his new spot Box following him and plopping back down on the ground. Jax smirked propping his feet up and drawing his wand after the professor instructed. He smiled and looked around the wand spinning through his fingers.
He smiled "Herbivicus" He said as the plant began to change colors. "Hmm" He mumbled smiling pulling out his quill and writing as the flower changed. He scribbled down a few notes and decided to experiment. "Herbivicus" He said again wanting to see what happened if he did it again.

The herbivicus charm? Calli felt justifiably ripped off. Both that they were learning a charm and thus she was missing out on important potions related knowledge, and at Professor Reinhardt pointing out that it could be used defensively.
Creative spell use was one of Caelani's strengths, if she did say so herself. She didn't need some teacher going around giving other people ideas. Apart from anything else, ignorance was quite the attractive trait in other people.
For now, however, she couldn't exactly object. Unlike Roberts, Calli knew it was unlikely she could manipulate the Professor into seeing things her way, and indeed, if she'd been in Reinhardt's place Roberts would have been the one getting a detention for his presumption.
Of course, if Cealani had been Reinhardt's place, a lot of things would be different.
She poked a bulb with her wand and snapped out the incantation at it: "Herbivictus."
Ooops.
((anyone's free to RP what Calli's mispronunciation did, btw))

"very funny" Dale remarked gloomily as he carefully picked at the gum tacked into his mess of hair, not wanting to interrupt Professor Reinhardt's beautiful rant directed at the miscreants of the class. As she finally ended with a deduction of ten house points it felt almost like christmas had come again. Like music to my ears.. It was a pity she stopped there. give it time yes.. that's what she needed, more time to acclimate to being an appropriately seasoned teacher.
For now she was weak.helpless he sighed, she was a beautiful damsel in distress, desperate for his attention and guidance.
'teach me oh powerful and mighty Dale'
'yes anything for you!'
Dale long gave up the hope of ever de-gumming his hair and instead lifted his wand carefully raised when he couldn't help but overhear the slytherins bastardization of the spell. Dale's brows furrowed "herbivictus? are you trying to de-home the figs or try and heal them?" he scoffed, and pointed at his own shrivelfig and tapped it quite easily "herbivicus" he over emphasized and cast an obnoxious look in her direction. Slytherins so dumb.. so very dumb..

Caelani merely quirked an eyebrow at Dale's pathetic remark and transferred her wand's aim from her own shrivelfig, towards his.
"Herbivicus," she pronounced, carefully this time, ensuring she'd get it right.
"Professor Reinhardt did say it's a defensive spell as well, Dale," she reminded him.

"Yes against lobalugs" he retorted through gritted teeth, trying not to get riled by the slytherin's obvious attempt to get under his skin, which she was already doing, but he knew better than to let her know that.
"You realize that means the only time you'd actually use the spell defensively would be oh I don't know, if you somehow found yourself at the very bottom of the ocean" he wondered if Slytherins even read anymore. It seemed they were all in line of the 'don't read, just disturb' group. Like Davina and her irritating feet, and some other pesky ones he'd encountered. Dale snatched the forgotten shrivelfig that lay untouched in front of Caelani and exchanged it for his own because Caelani was either too dumb or too blind to take notice of the one sitting before her.

Nothing much had happened when Dale had chanted his incantation. Nothing much had continued to happen when Calli had added her own, but when the Ravenclaw swapped their figs (and why he wanted her defective specimen, Caelani had no idea) Dale's shrivelfig suddenly changed colour and sprouted to four times its former size.
Caelani would never admit to shrieking. That was not the kind of thing she did. She would admit to stumbling over the chair, though, because she fully intended to hold the stupid Ravenclaw responsible for the bruise it caused on her shin.

He fell back as the plant began to grow a bit to fast. "shioot" he said trying to stop himself from cursing, but his point still came across as he fell back against box landing on his large shell and sliding down. "glad I didn't shrink you down yet" He says patting the turtle's shell.
He stood up and raised his hand. "Uhm professor I kinda pulled a stupid i think" He says pointing to the large plant. He was now kind of fearful of the consequences. If it was a prank he would have been smiling stupidly, but this was him appealing his curiosity. you idiot you should have only done the spell once He scolded himself as he stared at the abominable shrivelfig.

Cadence's attention was drawn to how huge the plant was becoming. Finally something useful he thought as he began to laugh, but it was not too loud just enough to show that he was highly amused by such happenings as this now going on around him. If class was like this all the time then he thought that maybe he might be able to pay attention to class itself more.

Delilah's just laughing at the her disturbed class, while her own plant grew a black tongue as she 1. said "herdivios" 2. was too busy watching Bitttle and Roberts bicker and their plants mutate at will, and 3. didn't really care
At least her plant did not grow pink feathers like the hufflepuff who sat in the corner.
