Like many Ravenclaws, Penny had a whole other study timetable aside from the one provided by the school. Hers involved studying the students of the other houses, their comings and goings and she had vowed she'd be the first person to ever gain access to all the other common rooms by the time she graduated. At least, she assumed she would be. It wasn't like she'd read up on this or anything. So right now she was feeling, and yes, maybe even smelling a little sour due to the fact that she was absolutely drenched in vinegar. Not even white vinegar, which wouldn't be that bad. Someone - and she was pretty sure it had been The Murphy because she didn't think the Hufflepuffs were that smart - had filled those barrels with Balsamic. Her shirt looked like some hippie's tie-dyed wet dream, and her skirt was covered in dark splotches. Hands on hips, Penny glared at the barrels stacked in front of the not-so-secret entrance to the Hufflepuff common room. Elana Montgomary

Snow. Wet, sloppy, seep into your bones, snow. As if there was anything worse in the world, she couldn’t imagine, except for the fact that there was no where to take a private bubble bath if you weren’t a prefect. There wasn’t much else she could to but scour herself in one of the communal girls bathroom showers off of the Hufflepuff dormitory, perhaps light a fire. It was hard to keep ones spirit up when the sun hadn’t so much as poked out from behind the oppressing cloud layer in weeks.
The dungeons had her in no fairer mood. The previous night she hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep, and it had taken a toll on her day considerably, half asleep until she nearly blew her eyebrows off in potions. She had insisted upon her own alertness for the remainder of the day, and that was perhaps the only reason she would have noticed the pungent scent of vinegar from nearly a corridor away. She stepped quietly, approaching a stained Ravenclaw a few years her junior from behind.
“Are you lost?” Elana asked, her lips twisting in an amused smirk.

Blasting the barrels to smithereens would accomplish nothing. Probably just get her doused in even more vinegar, besides. Boring holes in them would likely be just as pointless. She was just considering writing something obscene across the largest one, simply out of spite, when those thoughts were rudely interrupted.
Yes, no, maybe? Penny turned to consider which answer the questioner deserved.
The chick was pretty, in that fragile kind of way that boys seemed to like. She was also smirking which meant she was probably pleased with what she was seeing.
"Nah," she replied. No point hiding what they both knew was the truth.
"I'm just trying to break into your common room. Care to help out?"

Roger, the usually very friendly Siamese, hung back behind her for one, forgoing his usual greetings to a new person. There was a good possibility that his wariness was from the fact that she reeked like vinegar, so Elana banked on this. She looked fairly harmless, just young and mischievous. Navigating the puddles, with Roger in tow eying the girl suspiciously, and approached the barrels.
Elana took a small joy from seeing a Ravenclaw struggle with their passage. There was no riddle, or password, and it was always the same. Drawing her wand, she let the fine pear wood rest between her to index and thumb.
“Why, did you need something? Could get it for you, if you like..” Elana offered, making no move to open the passage, yet.

Penny smiled. Turned out this girl was nothing like she'd pegged her for. What with her original question and smirking smile, Penny had assumed she was some pureblood taking pleasure in the embarrassment, or presumed embarrassment of yet another muggleborn.
Turned out she was more Hufflepuff than she seemed.
"What part of breaking in don't you understand?" Penny asked.

There weren't very many times the charismatic Hufflepuff was at a loss for words, but yet here she was. Perhaps it was the exhaustion that made her so bold to laugh, the normal shock factor of another trying to break in dissolving. Why in the world would someone want in their common room?! It wasn’t anything spectacular, unless her lover resided in the house.
Elana rested her wand on the second barrel in the center row, two from the bottom. In her entire time at Hogwarts, there wasn’t a rule she had willingly broken that Elana could recall. Surely she would be caught and punished for allowing someone from another house in. Still, she entertained the idea, letting the weight of her tired body rest on the barrels.
“Tell me why.. Maybe I’ll let you in, for a minute. But you can’t tell anyone I did.”

A minute was all she needed and although Penny was disappointed that her "break in" had descended to talking someone into letting her in, she wasn't that picky.
"I just wanna get into all the house common rooms. I'd let you into Ravenclaw's if you wanted. If you needed me to. Not like it's difficult to get past the stupid knocker," she responded.
It was true, too. Penny was pretty sure the Ravenclaw knocker had been instructed to ask them inane questions this year, because lately most anyone could get past simply by replying "yo mama" or if they were a Class A, telling it to get fucked with a rubber duck.
If Penny was older, she might have thought there was a lesson in that.
"Of course I'd never tell anyone you let me in there. If you don't tell anyone you saw me like this," she added.
There. Perfect. If the other girl thought she had some kind of power here, that was just as well. It wasn't Penny's fault she clearly didn't know who she was dealing with.

Her reasoning seemed innocent enough, but for a moment Elana reconsidered her offer. Firstly, she knew she would never have a reason to need to be in the Ravenclaw common room, and second she was almost positive there would be someone lingering on the other side of the passage reguardless of the hour. Tired as she was, she decided to tell anyone who might see, she simply forgot to close the barrel behind her. Right.
“Okay.”Elana said after a long moment, turning her back to the soaking girl. Tappog her wand rhythmically on the correct barrel, Hel-ga Huff-le-puff, Elana held the lid as Roger kept in before her before climbing in herself. She kept the lid propped with her fingertips from inside the passage, though she was still reeling from her delinquent behavior. How out of character.
“Hurry up!” she hissed, as quietly as she could, though her voice seemed to ring out much louder then she intended. She couldn’t hear anyone on the other side, but she did want to look before strolling in with someone other then a Hufflepuff. The air was warm and humid already, the smell of the earth and plant life welcoming her.

Tap-tap Tap-a-tap. Seemed simple enough, Penny couldn't hear any difference between what that girl did and what she'd been doing before. She couldn't see any difference either.
Yet, the Huffle wasn't covered in vinegar.
Hurry up!
Oh, right. She quickly closed the gap between them and vaulted into the barrel the other girl had disappeared down.
It stank.
"Nice place you've got here."

Elana remained silent as she crept down the earth lined passage, letting her Siamese take the lead as an early warning signal. Vocal as he was, she was sure he would greet anyone around before either of the two girls stepped through. He remained silent as he passed the threshhold, leaping into the ledge above the fireplace.
Still her eyes flickered rapidly between the empty chairs and closed dorm doors for a moment before stepping through and removing her cloak, dropping into one of the plush chairs by the fireplace. “Did you want a change of clothes or something?” If their chatter didn’t wake her housemates, she was sure the smell would be a dead giveaway something was amiss.

Bonus. Infiltrating the Hufflepuff stronghold and a disguise. Could this day get any better?
"That would be so kind of you," Penny did her very best innocent and sweet impersonation. "Do I, uh? Right here?"

Merlin forbid one girl changes in front of another. Elana let herself into the girls dorms, blindly making her way in the dark to the bumblebee striped trunk. That past summer she had gone through yet another growth spurt, and had come to find that most of her robes no longer fit. Unlatching it with a metallic pop, she began digging through for something that might fit the smaller girl. As her fingers pulled a few garments out, a voice behind her set a shock so hard she jumped sending the lid crashing down on her fingers.
“Where have you been? No one’s seen you since dinner.”
The voice was friendly, but between the throbbing of her fingers and the exhaustion she was feeling, it was fairly indistinguishable.
“I can’t sleep. I’m going to go study.. Sorry for waking you up.” A single set of bare feet could be heard walking across the polished wood floors, and sliding back between their sheets. Gripping the clothes blindly in the dark, she followed the memorized path back to the dorm door, and back out into the common room.
Allowing her eyes to adjust to the fire lit room, she held up her unknown findings. Thankfully, she had more then she needed, and not less. Two skirts, a handful of socks, several shirts, and one thick robe. She dropped them in the chair near the fire, and pulled out her wand. “Wingardium leviosa..” she murmured, and her own long robe Rose from its place, forming a barrier between the two girls.
“Just be quick..” She wasn’t about to bring her back into the dorms, after all, the girl herself seemed less then discrete herself, and would no doubt wake the other girls, too. Plus the stink.

Hehe.
Despite her seeming anxiety earlier, Penny barely even bothered to wait for the charm before stripping down and donning the Hufflepuff's clothes.
"Go- Merlin, don't be so uptight, if your housemates are all okay with me getting undressed in the middle of their common room, I think they can handle that I might not be one of you."
Well, probably. Penny had heard some pretty crazy things about Honey Badgers.

Like a switch flipped, all it seemed the girls former modesty went out of window and she was out of he sopping and donned in the dry. Elana settled herself once more in the chair, this time kicking off her stiff shoes. “I don’t think anyone in my house would be happy about either. Except maybe the boys, but they still wouldn’t like you here unless you were planning to stay naked.” Chewing her lower lip nervously, she realized in that moment she had never even introduced herself.
“I’m Elana by the way, I don’t think we've met before.” Extending a hand, she offered a smile, the first of the night.

Penny smirked, then shrugged.
"I wouldn't mind staying naked," she replied easily.
It was true, she would have done it even in a room full of boys, because likely it would make them more embarrassed than her. And everyone would know about it.
"I'm Penny," she shook Elana's hand, wondering whether her name had preceded her.
It better have. If not, she was gonna have to up her game.
