[ outfit] Dani had elected to, once more, for the fifth weekend in a row, to stay inside. Being that it was the middle of frigid winter and Daniyah was a child of sun and blistering heat, this was not altogether uncommon. However, she had been in a funk for the better half of the new year and couldn't seem to shake her winter blues no matter what sort of enterprise she engrossed herself with. And oh how she tried! Everything from card collecting to wizard chess, but each and every one of her ventures failed to divert her attention for very long. This week, it was muggle art. Something she had been fond of as a child, but like all things, she had repudiated the hobby for something prettier and shinier, and now revisited the lost mastery, pleased to find she had not lost her innovational touch. What was unusual however, was her presence in The Great Hall. Normally one to skip meals due to her finicky eating habits, Dani sat at the far end of the hall away from the preponderance of weekend recluses like herself. In front of her sat a small sketch pad which she idly colored upon, a mild expression set on her features as her fingers gently grazed the lineup of colored pencils that accompanied her. Beside those sat a bowl of fruit like raspberries and oranges, from which she occasionally picked at in true bird-like articulation. Slackly she picked up a shade of pink labeled fiery rose and began shading the abstract patterns that covered the page commodiously. Cadence Strife

Being social is completely over-rated. If he had his way he would not ever be social again but such as life would have it one can not just forget such nuisances, as a matter of fact in this glorious day and age it almost feel like it is forced upon a person anyway..Cadence as always was somewhere he truly had no business being. It was not his fault that this hall was so, well great.
None the less he took a seat next to Daniyah for no other reason than the girl was sitting next to oranges and gross raspberries. The main thing that had grabbed his attention however was the fact that she had art supplies, muggle ones at that.
Cadence: Tell me you are much brighter than to be sketching fruit.
Fruit was for basic people and now that he thought about it maybe she was basic or liked basic things, either way.
Cadence: Let me see it,
he said pointing to the page.

When Cadence situated himself beside her Daniyah felt herself shrink back slightly. There had been a reason why she'd chosen the far side of The Great Hall, and it certainly wasn't because she was in her usual glib type of moods. Still, she acknowledged Cadence with a sort of disoriented stare, and when he spoke the expression endured. "Dense," she started affectionately but with a sighing resonance to her voice, sliding her arm off the sketchbook page and slipping the notebook in the boys direction. "I really am not in the mood to be poked fun of, so please keep the ignorant comments to a minimum." She sounded drained, like she had just spent the evening wakefully. Even the usual effervescent glow that surrounded her bouncy poise had flattened. "It's just something I do. I don't take it seriously," she continued, picking several pieces of fruit and sliding them in between her lips before leaning an elbow onto the table and resting the side of her head upon it, twisting ever so slightly to face the Gryffindor boy beside her. "Why aren't you at Hogsmeade like everyone else?"

Her apparent displeasure, it made him laugh. As rude as it was it did make him laugh.
Cadence: I'm not a fan of doing what everyone else is doing, plus I just don't care to socialize. I find it's a true pain in the ass honestly and yet here I am somehow still doing it.
It was whatever.
Cadence: Point being, I kind of figured that bubbly little miss "let me make cakes" thing you had going on was a put on. This is much better anyway.
There were no fucks to be given and it was great.
Cadence: What else do you have to say?
How far one was willing to go though, that was a different story.
Cadence: Before I throw my minimal ignorant comment in because I have a feeling it might actually be the first real thing you say to me which means it's almost a valuable thought.
Hey, if we were just going to throw insults anyhow.

"Woah, aren't you edgy," she replied with an eye roll in reference to his comment about being social.
She was in no mood to put up with anyones sass, especially not some loser that cried like a baby at her party. Then, when he turned the conversation towards her own character, she lifted her head up from her palm and let out an amused snicker. She thought a moment as the conversation swung in her direction over how to reply. He was being frank, and Daniyah didn't often deal with those with such impudent delivery. She bit her bottom lip and smiled sweetly at Cadence and blinked her big eyes in his direction.
"Boy, if you really think everyone isn't putting some kind of guise on, then you're either naive or stupid. I guess you live up to my nickname," came her subsequent response. She popped another raspberry in her mouth and rolled it around on her tongue.
"Everyone plays games Cadence. Some of us are just a lot better at it than others," she jabbed. Then, her sugary disposition dropped dramatically, and once again she looked tired. "People don't want to know the real you. People don't care. What they want is someone to make them feel good about themselves," she continued solemnly. "And I'm good at that."

He did not care what people thought about him. The more that they thought about him, the stranger that they thought he was then the less he would have to deal with them. However Cadence himself was different when it came to others.
Cadence: I am naive and stupid when it comes to some things. I mean I do not care to retain knowledge about things that are going to otherwise be useless to me. Also I can not read a person worth a damn so now that we have established that, I am going to change that today. Now as a matter of fact to be more specific.
He turned and he actually observed. The whole reason that Cadence did not observe was because it was indeed strange when he did it, simply because he gazed. If he was going to observe someone he felt that gazing was best because you got to see and had to take notice of every individual tick and nerve movement.
It was difficult at the same time though because you had to actually listen to not just the words but the tone that the person's voice was in as they said them. For example when she said that some played games better than others. That word others, he slotted himself into that and her into the slot of some, thus she was saying that she played games, or with people better than he did.
Cadence: So no games at the moment then. No dumbing it down because you think I'm dumb or naive and no guises.
Also she needed to rid herself of those awful raspberries.
Cadence : What has mentally beat you down so much that even though your mouth says one thing, your physically is slowly draining itself?

Daniyah was silent for a moment, mulling over the bare-faced request, until she realized just how silly the consideration actually was. Why would she do something like that for Cadence, of all people? How had he proven himself to her prior to this point for her to concede her trust? He hadn't. In fact, she hardly knew the boy beyond a handful of eccentricities that he had shown her in the kitchens and his weepy party antics. Her gaze met his, and she slid an arm in front of him to where her sketchbook was, prudently closing the cover on her drawing. Daniyah didn't open up to people. Cadence was no exception to her rules. Her vulnerabilities were her own, arduously guarded to the grave.
"No."
She didn't offer any rationale as to why she refused. The word came out like a boulder: rigid and unyielding. Her hands were suddenly entangled in the task of gathering her belongings, sliding the colored pencils back into their manufactured cardboard. She had pulled her gaze away from Cadence now instead, and refused to meet it once more, a lustrous sheen coating them as she thought about the thing that had been bothering her so badly.
"That's just not something I do. Sorry."
She wasn't sorry. Not really.

He watched lightly.
Cadence : Oh..
Must be something deep. He sighed a bit and he actually thought about what came out of his mouth next instead of just spouting off randomly.
Cadence: I don't blame you. I mean we do not really have time to get to know anyone. Really get to know them and decide if they are worthy in return of knowing us, so...
He shrugged. Never let it be said that he did not try.
Cadence: You thought about it though. For a half of a second or so, telling me your problem.
However something regardless of if it was big or small had stopped her. He just assumed that she liked sitting in a puddle of self loathing and pity. It got heavy though. The longer you sat in something like that, the heavier it was to lift it off yourself and thus the harder it was to do anything.
Not something I do.
He blinked oddly at that statement. People did things all the time. Well he was already a weird sort of introvert of some type that liked to push people so why change now. Since Daniyah was already staying inside, withdrawing herself from people what did he really have to lose. Let's gently push. he thought to himself.
Cadence: Then you decided it's best to be as bland as that cardboard you're shuffling those colored pencils back into.
Too bad she missed one, he said leaning down and picking it up. He held it in between his index finger and thumb. Steady too actually even though he wanted so bad to twirl it, but this was not a twirling occasion. He looked the colored pencil over.
Cadence: No one's ever sorry, not really. It's just a polite way of saying "leave me alone."
He should have left because this had the potential to get nasty. Hell he had the potential to burst out into tears, no that was a lie. He had vowed never to do that again in front of anyone.
Cadence: I know a therapist if that's more your thing.
Now he twirled the colored pencil as he began looking up at the ceiling.
Cadence: I'm going to put my initials into the ceiling I think, cause I'm that edgy.

"I don't need a therapist Cadence," she responded sorely to his statement, rolling her eyes and holding an impatient hand out for the colored pencil she had missed. "Besides, I don't understand why that's so difficult for you to grasp. I hardly know you. Why would I want to burden someone I hardly know with my problems?" she continued, following his gaze up to the ceiling. "That doesn't make me bland. That just makes me..." a pause. What did it make her? Cautious? Conciliatory? As she thought about the correct word to use in this paradigm, she listened to the boy outline his plans.
Saying nothing at first, she ran through several questions in her mind, eventually settling on one very Ravanclaw-esque query.
"Why would you want to do that?"
After all, everything in her mind needed a purpose, reason, or rationale. Something of more sustenance than 'because I'm edgy'. She lowered her hand, curious as to how the lion would accomplish the goal he set for himself. She could think of a few ways to go about doing it, but not as a lion would, and to try and guess the exact mechanics of his intent was very interesting. Perhaps it was an undertaking of the ego, like a cat marking his territory.
"Self-effacing," she continued finally, picking their conversation back up as if they had never taken that detour. "If I'm going to tell you something, I need to know your objective. People just don't do things... just because."

He imagined just turning and shaking her. Like shaking her so hard her head popped off and rolled down the hall. That made him laugh, but even though it may have appeared so he was not laughing at her, still he was laughing. It was a funny thought can't blame him for that. He opened his mouth but nothing came out. He thought he had the words to tell her why but as he sat their trying to vocalize them, the only thing that was happening was he was standing their looking like an idiot with his mouth open, silver hair and all. He closed his mouth and turned towards the wall. He tapped the pencil. Cadence: I'll give this back in a second. Tip of pencil to the wall he slowly began to etch. He could get to the ceiling but he'd save that for now. Cadence: Two things. First thing is therapy can be very helpful. I never said you needed a therapist but I do know some people who like to go to them because what they tell them is confidential. Heck sometimes it's so boring you can fall asleep which is what you do need. Second thing is, I'm just trying to give you someone to push it off on. I don't have an ulterior motive. He sighed as he squatted down. He backed up and looked at this. He handed her the pencil. Cadence: Assuming you know how to play, you can go first. I mean since we're not talking about what's bothering you, let's play a game.

Dani honed in on the drawing Cadence had conjured and offered only a perplexed expression. Fine. She would play then, but her suspicions still lingered. The idea that someone could be genuine enough to not desire anything else from another human being was a difficult notion for the Ravenclaw girl to accept. Tentatively picking up the pencil she leaned forward and drew her shape. She chose 'o' despite it not being the conventional choice for the first player. Marking the bottom left corner she moved out from in front of the wall, glancing around to make sure no Professors had seen the blatant vandalism. She didn't normally act out, but in truth a chiseled jawline and smoldering eyes could sway her opinion pretty easily, even if he wasn't the brightest.

"Well." Turning to look up at Dense her expressive features wavered. "I believe you, but I'm not sure if I should," she stated as she handed the pencil back to the Gryffindor boy. Fiddling with the sleeve of her shirt she continued, eyes shooting towards her feet. "I think I might have ruined my brother's life. And I mean, like, a big lapse in judgement on my behalf and I'm not sure if it's something I can fix." When she looked up again her eyes had glassed over.

Someone would have said that moves in tic tac toe were a defined way to tell someone's emotions when they did not speak. Cadence was not sure he believed that but if someone else did he would not ruin it for them. As per usual he looked at things in a whole different way. He glanced at her for a second.
Strife: Long story short, pain is temporary, family is not. It's like this game. When a person loses, it's just because they made a mistake, but eventually you get better and everyone forgets the mistake you made.
Oh shit. He was like smart or something. Intelligent ftw.
Strife: I know sibling relationships are not games but mistakes made when playing games can apply. The build you have with Kaimana is not a win or lose situation, mistakes can be made but they can also be forgiven. If he has not already, he will forgive you and then you will be able to sleep and forgive yourself.
He stuck the pencil gently behind her ear.
Strife: Go fix it Daniyah. I'll get rid of this.
Yeah, he said that.
Strife: Just please go try because this is only ever the second time in my life I am telling someone to do something that is not selfish. I mean we're still not friends or whatever, but he's your family so scat.
