Pacing had made it worse. Selina made her decision and pacing was not making the details easier. She had already compiled a list of easily passable excuses and responses, should she be seen. At some point the Potions Mistress and built up enough nervous energy that she had given up and pushed up her plans by two nights. There was nothing else to prepare for; she just needed to get it over with. Picking up a stack of assignments from her 3rd years. It was evident that they had been cheating, and it would be one of her excuses as to why she was going to be in the Headmaster’s office.
Walking her way up the tower that lead to Murphy’s office, Selina concentrated on breathing evenly as she took one step after another. She wasn’t exactly out of shape, but she was running out of breath about two thirds up the tower. The former Ravenclaw was more nervous than she wanted to admit, but this had become a necessary action. The Headmaster had been acting strange since the beginning of the year. Like most people, everyone had their personality quirks and strange habits, and Murphy had always had his own. But Selina had seen the change in the man’s character, and it had been increasingly bizarre throughout the year. Selina had dwelled on her conversation with the Gryffindor Head of House and wondered how much strangeness was allowable until it was bordering something else.
Reaching the door, Selina took one last breath before knocking on the Headmaster’s door and waited for an answer. After a few silent moments and no response, she tried again without success. Looking over her shoulder, she tried to Charm the door open, which was a complete failure, and she flipped through her mind looking for more complex spells that might help her out. Her incantations became more and more complex, and it wasn’t until the 6th try that the door finally cracked open. Why would he need so much magic to shut his door? Her mind immediately remembered the ‘rule’ he had made about staying out of his business, and her brown folded in concern.
Walking into the office, Selina couldn’t spot anything out of the ordinary right away. Clutching her papers in her arms against her chest, she slowly walked the edge of the office space, glancing at a few trinkets. It wasn’t for another minute or so that she realized that the portraits were trying to get her attention. The three men in their portraits nearest to where she was standing were waving their arms, alarm in their eyes, trying to tell her something. Why couldn’t they talk? Most portraits did and even if there were many that didn’t, why would none of the Headmaster portraits talk? The woman walked towards a few others and they were all waving their arms towards the door, and each fearful expression she saw made her heart beat a little faster. She was eventually propelled back to the door, finding that she definitely shouldn’t be there and couldn’t remember why she had come in the first place. Unfortunately, the door opened just as she was inching forward to exit...

The headmaster was a secretive man. He was so secretive in fact that he trusted no one in his office, not even the animated portraits on the wall. In fact, those pesky things had become such a nuisance to his life that he'd often hexed them into silence, preferring to spend his hours plotting to himself without the unnecessary opinions on morality of his former colleagues. So when he entered his office and found himself face to face with an intruder, he couldn't help but silently curse to himself for not setting any traps.
The potions mistress... Meh. Pain in the arse if anything.
Murphy had always felt something off about the professor, from her curt smiles to her unapologetic looks at being lectured for being too 'soft'. And now here she was before him, in his office.. alone. Fishy.. very fishy... his eyes narrowed slightly as he looked past her for any incriminating details if there might be any. Perhaps a slip of paper placed in the wrong spot, or a missing book. But when he felt nothing appeared to be.. off as he'd suspected, he returned his gaze to his employee and gave her a simple tilt of the head in acknowledgement of her presence, as if it could be avoided. He never left his door unlocked.
"Professor Roy..." he slipped inside, trying as he could to control his emotions and appear calm and unruffled despite the presence of a mole within his midst. "my apologies, I must have forgotten our appointment together." Or fake appointments. Not that he'd let that up. If he wanted to find out what she was doing he had to do it with poise.
"Why don't you take a seat." he offered, although anyone who knew Murphy knew that it was more of an order than a polite suggestion.

For some reason, Selina had expected a less moderate response from the Headmaster. He had made it exceptionally clear in his rules that he did not tolerate any meddling of his business. And if being in his office without an invitation wasn’t meddling, then nothing was. For a split second, the Potions Mistress froze as he gave her a calculating look before she caught up with herself and offered him a friendly smile as if she were meant to be there all along. He gazed behind her and around his things, and Selina was infinitely grateful she hadn’t touched anything. Her heart was starting to race, and skipped a beat when he apologized for missing a meeting. She blinked once, but didn’t break her smile as she realized he was lying. She most certainly would have remembered setting up a meeting with him, but she tried not to think about it before the implications made her panic.
“Thank you,” she mumbled, trying to sound appreciative. Having no other choice but to accept his invitation to save face, Selina sat on a wooden chair across from him. It was stiff and uncomfortable, and the brunette had to adjust her bottom a bit before she crossed her ankles. “Well, um…” Shit, shit, shit. She couldn’t hesitate. Selina knew he hadn’t expected her there and now he was entertaining her in his office. She quickly cleared her throat and shuffled her papers, separating them into three stacks before placing them on his desk. “My third years are cheating,” she said, thankfully controlling her voice that was on the verge of quivering. “I recall that you were concerned that I was lacking in the disciplinary aspect of my position so I was wondering what you would suggest would be appropriate for their punishment.” Looking right at Murphy, she hoped to Merlin she had sold it. Just outside Selina’s view, she could see the portraits still moving, waving their arms, warning her. The woman took a slow breath as she concentrated on not looking at them, and facing Murphy. “Perhaps a couple of weeks with the Caretaker?”

As the clock ticked his irritation seemed to grow, his brows knotting deeper and deeper until it appeared he had a perfectly symmetrical uni brow. He was nearly on the verge of shooing her away when suddenly the topic of punishments had been brought up. His brows raised in mild surprise.
Now this was the kind of topic he relished in discussing. Violence in the means of suppression that garnered respect and loyalty. Which only added fuel to the flames of distrust, because up until this point Selina had done everything to avoid doing anything more drastic than docking points.
well now if she wanted to play, he could play.
"Selina, my dear I think we both know that cheating is indicative of more things than merely a means to an end. To put it simply, they don't respect you" be exhaled, in an almost sympathetic manner, but no amount of sighs could hide the malicious look in his eyes, "and if they don't respect you, you can't expect the caretaker to fix that, now do you?"
No, the caretaker wouldn't do. Besides, the caretaker had never exactly been hired on the basis of his scary appearance but more so because his garden was growing horribly and he needed someone to keep the deer carcasses off the lawn.
"Tell me, how do you feel about human test subjects?" he asked rather casually "The student in question could reasonably spend the following weeks testing out the potions of every team in your class. I suspect he wont be cheating any time soon" And hospitalized daily, though honestly, if you were daft enough to get caught you deserved that sort of punishment. He taught his students better than that.

As Selina watched the Headmaster’s expression change a few times, she could tell there was something very wrong. Of course, she had had her suspicions which she had shared with Professor Drake, but now sitting in front of Murphy she could tell that she wasn’t imagining it and that it was probably more serious than she had expected. He spoke about her students disrespecting her, taking advantage of her and, for a moment, Selina felt the frustration that came with that realization, finding that there was some true reasoning behind his words. His face… his eyes, however, didn’t compliment the sentiment. The Potions Mistress felt her heart clench at the unspoken knowledge that he was not well, and she could see a touch of madness as he looked at her.
Reaching over to collect her paperwork, she looked away from him, pretending to keep her things in order. He unsettled her but she needed to play along just long enough to make it back to her side of the castle. When he spoke again, her breath caught and she looked up trying to keep her own expression stoic. Human subjects? Selina allowed her lips to part slightly, feigning an interest in his suggestion. “Yeess… that’s an idea,” she answered slowly. “Since there are a number of them, I suppose they should make my grading go quite easily.” Her stomach turned violently as she imagined her students trying each other’s failed Potions assignments.
Rearranging her things without moving too fast, she gave him a failed smile and stood up… too quickly. Her legs knocked over her uncomfortable wooden chair, producing a loud smack and making her jump out of her skin. Bending over to set the chair straight while she hugged her papers, and herself, she tried to keep her voice even. “Well, thank you for your time, Headmaster. I will definitely be reporting back with how your suggestion works.” She looked over her shoulder to make sure he was still at his desk, and started making her way towards the door. She broke her own rule and looked at the portraits on the wall, who were now pointing behind her.

If only she hadn't looked. For that split second that she chose to look up at the portraits, she'd given him exactly the right amount of time to solve the very troublesome problem that had appeared.
"Imperio" He uttered, wand raised and pointed directly at Selinas back. Her moment of weakness and fear had given a leeway into his control, and he found it quite easy to break that barrier she often held onto.
Oh selina.. He sighed to himself. If only you'd listened.
"Sit"
He commanded, glowering from behind his desk. Honestly.. this kind of behavior, this skiving sniveling faux 'oh headmaster of course' horse shit. Like he didn't smell a fake when he saw it. No. Selina might have thought herself the academy award actress, Murphy saw her as nothing more than cheap stand in.
Now..
Where were we.
He watched as Selina's body awkwardly stepped forward as if a pair of strings were attached to each of her limbs and a puppeteer somewhere above played master to it all. There were no strings, and no unforeseen god hanging above to control it. No. There was no other god than Murphy himself. He grinned as she finally found her seat and fell back carelessly, nearly missing the seat in the process.
Well.. maybe not so much as a god. But pretty damn close. Murphy rose from his chair and made his way around to the other side of the desk where Selina was seated, erect as a stick, not a single bone in her body moved as she sat obediently to his command. Just the way he liked it. He leaned against the desk and sat, staring down at her. The woman he once thought might possibly have potential and who, as of now was a complete and total disappointment to it all.
"Did you really think I'd be dumb enough to let you walk away after catching you snooping in my office? In fact, just being in my office all willy nilly. What kind of school did you think you worked at? Had I not made my rules clear, or do you think yourself above the rules.. in other words--- above me"
He watched as she stared straight ahead.
Oh right.. He laughed. Silly me
"You may answer freely" he suggested and it was as if a slight rein had been lifted in the otherwise lifeless Selina.

Selina hadn't even been able to gasp as she almost missed the seat and landed on her rear. The Imperius Curse had taken over every aspect of her body, much to the Headmaster's delight; she could see it in the sadistic smile he was giving her, reveling in the triumph he had in controlling an unwilling subject. The fact that he had used an Unforgivable on her was atrocious, and it added the fuel to the shame she felt as she sat in his chair like a child caught stealing from the candy store. Though she couldn't speak, she breathed heavily in frustration as he taunted her for being such a poor actress. Of course Selina knew he wasn't stupid. The Potions Mistress was just hoping that he had enough incentive to keep up appearances to let her go without incident. She had obviously been mistaken.
Murphy's laugh was steel and unnatural, and he released just enough control in order for her to fill her lungs to respond. "Your rules are teeming with insanity, and soon enough everyone will know," she answered with a shaky voice, breathing heavily. Though her reply was braver than she felt, she wasn't dull enough to not be afraid. Along with her increasing sense of panic, she instantly felt the regret of not insisting to Drake that there was something wrong, to help her pursue it. Anything that wouldn't have brought her to this point on her own where she was powerless and under the Headmaster's will. "Whatever it is you're planning... it won't work." If Selina was lucky, she would help stop him.
