Lachlan was stumped as he entered the duelling hall. One would think he'd know his own brother well enough to think up a decent location for a duel, but the problem was that any location he could think up had benefits and drawbacks for both of them. In the end he chose a kind of maze, all polished white tile for slipping on and walls all over the place for hiding behind, or using to block spells. It was simple, maybe too simple, but Lachlan was distracted lately. He took up a spot at the far end of the corridor and waited for Edmund to enter. Though the rules said they must bow to one-another, that meant almost nothing. He knew if this was home, the first spell would take him by surprise. It always did.

Edmund smirked as he walked into the room. Of course his brother would give plenty of places to hide. Their spells tended to get pretty aggressive. He wandered slowly throughout the room. It was a kind of poetic justice that the brothers were paired together. Here Edmunnd was, trying to avoid his brother, who had probably seen him chatting up another man for the first time, and he was placed with him. He wondered if Murphy would come to watch. It was the kind of ruthlessness that he seemed to enjoy.
The room was polished white tile, which Edmund appreciated. He loved when things were clean. He wondered briefly if Lachlan had been subconsciously thinking of that when he chose the environment.
Here is usually where a taunt would be inserted, but as we know, Edmund is a quiet man, and would rather let his spells speak for themselves.
Spotting a familair flop of hair, Edmund's instincts kicked in. "Stupify!" he shouted, throwing a spell and darting behind one of the many tiled walls. Lachlan had good instincts, and while Edmund knew he was skilled, he wasn't stupid.

At the sound of Edmund's voice, Lachlan ducked and the spell went flying into a wall behind him. "Speaking during a duel, Ed?" he said, as he stalked through the room trying to get a clear shot at his brother. "Mummy and daddy would be ever so put out." He saw a shadow up ahead and briefly wished he'd spell-proofed the walls. The idea of missed curses and hexes bouncing around the room was tantalising. A bit terrifying too, but that was all part of the fun. What now? Edmund had gone in full throttle, but Lachlan had always thought duels were more fun when they were drawn out a little. Perhaps a wound to the pride would do the trick? He darted across the room, silently casting the antler hex at the figure that must be casting that shadow. XnFmUbsh

"... Mummy and daddy would be ever so put out," Lachlan teased. Edmund's anger built. Was that a quip at the night before? Lachlan was probably proud that Edmund would no longer be the high achieving sibling. They would surely disown him a second time if they found out. As he was considering his brother's next move, he didn't notice him quietly slip around the wall, casting a hex that hit him square in the chest. Swearing, he ran to find better cover as his head burst out in pain. He felt himself grow lopsided as antlers sprouted from both corners of his scalp. He was sure to be more silent this time, searching for a better spot. He had also noticed that his spell had bounced off the wall. Maybe that can be used to my advantage. If Lachlan wanted to play like a child, Edmund could play along. Not wanting to be embarrassed again, cast the Capripes spell diagonally at the ceiling, using the light to bounce to a new wall. His antlers kept hitting the tile, and he swore under his breath. POr1esZf

"Such language." Lachlan had not expected his spell to hit his brother, so he took the opportunity to goad him. Edmund was usually the better at this. But his victory was short-lived, even if the addition of antlers was giving Ed's location away at every turn. Apparently his brother had had thoughts along the same lines as Lachlan, for the spell that brushed by him came from above. Coarse hair began to sprout on Lachlan's hip; he wondered what the spell had been meant to do. It itched, but after a few moments, he realised this was the extent of his suffering. This time, following the sound of the tapping on the tiles, he gave the conjunctivitis curse a go. It would irritate Edmund no end if he were to lose this duel by having his senses picked off one by one. Kug4neG1
