It was a nice Saturday afternoon and Mirai decided leave the comfort of his office and go for a walk. Lullaby, his pink Fwooper, who had been sitting on his lap preening, looked up at him as he put his book down. While Mirai had been relatively reclusive since starting as a professor, he'd decided some fresh air would be good both for him and for Lullaby.
Having the bird step up into his hand, Mirai put the bird on his shoulder who bobbed his head in approval. The bird had been out of Mirai's quarters even less than he had, and seemed happy to be going somewhere. As they entered the courtyards Mirai smiled as at the sunshine on his face and the gentle breeze on his skin. Planning on walking over to the pond, Mirai walked by the forest on his way there. And that's when Lullaby decided to misbehave.
Taking off towards the sky the bird circled a few times before landing in a tree on the outskirts of the forbidden forest.
"Sweetie, you need to come back," he told the bird.
Lullaby, however, had decided to ignore him. Standing on one of the highest branches the bird began to sing. Or at least try to. Mirai had been forced to put a silencing charm on him when he's returned to the country. Something about their song driving people insane. Since then the bird and gotten more and more ornery. Without being to communicate through sound, it found other means.
"Come on down Lullz," he spoke to the bird, "you can't stay there."
The bird kept up his silent singing, refusing to even look at Mirai. They continued like this until Mirai finally got tired of it. Moving his hand to the pocket of his robe for his wand, he didn't find it there. He checked again, and again, finally realizing that he'd left his wand in office. Apparently he couldn't force the bird to come back to him with magic. Glaring at the bird he finally yelled.
"Merlin's trousers, you dumb fucking bird, get down!"
It wasn't till after this that he realized there was someone behind him. He turned around, hoping it wasn't a student.
"I'm terribly sorry for my language, it's just. He's refusing to come down, and has been for like, the past twenty minutes," Mirai spoke.

James stood there with Helios trying not to laugh he had been watching for a little bit getting a kick out of it. "Here" He says pulling a bag out of his pocket. "I recommend treats cursing at them makes them angry" He pointed out. He pulled out three treats and whistled to the bird holding his hand out before looking away. Helios sat poised not even looking to the treats.
James stood their for a moment waiting for the bird to come back down as Helios would coo up to the bird trying to draw him over. "If you let him out to fly and stretch this doesn't happen" He recommended to the teacher. James was in his class but had an inaptitude for divinations. He new the symbols, the signs, but no matter how hard he tried he couldn't see the future or anything. He didn't lie to the professor about it but he did try when asked. He wasn't mad about it Divinations just seemed useless to him, finding out that what he would do is predetermined was kind of scary.

Mirai was surprised to see a phoenix on the student’s shoulder. As the boy tried to lure Lullaby down with treats, he smiled. That bird wouldn’t be bribed into anything. Before the silencing charm, he’d may have come down for treats but now he was as stubborn as ever. However, the Fwooper seemed just as interested in the phoenix, as Mirai was. The professor had spent quite a bit of time with his mother, studying about all sorts of magical creatures, and phoenixes has always been a special interest of hers.
“Beautiful bird,” he said “How does a fifteen-year-old end up with a phoenix?”
He assumed it was a gift from the boy’s parents. The student certainly dressed in a way that seemed, targeted to piss off wealthy parents. Lullaby, who was now completely focused on the new bird had gone silent, hopping down to a nearby branch, he seemed nervous. The other bird was twice his size after all.

"Found him out here with a broken wing" He stated "Nursed back to health and he's been by my side ever since" He smiled and whistled to the fwooper "Come on down here buddy" He called. He had always like birds they were obviously braver than he due to his fear of heights. He whistled again and looked over to the professor "Oh hey about OWLs just a warning I'll probably fail the the crystal ball portion" He warned the professor and continued to try to coax the bird down. "Come on birdie"
There was no chance of him passing that class he was useless to it as much as it was to him. He didn't need Divinations to become an auror it was just something for him to get an elective OWL in. He looked to Helios and smiled before looking to the professor, "If he won't come down I'll send Helios up to chase him down here" He says respectively "If thats ok with you anyway"

Interesting. It made sense that an intelligent bird like a phoenix would stay with someone who had cared for it. Apparently, the student wasn’t who Mirai had assumed, and Mirai rarely did make assumptions so easily. As he commented about the crystal ball portion of the O.W.L.s, Mirai laughed.
“Don’t worry, you can get an acceptable now as long as you know the meanings of stuff. The scrying part only matter if you want an EE or O."
He’d decided to split the test up like that in order to allow students with closed eyes but smart minds to still take the class. It hadn’t been a decision he’d enjoyed making, but it did allow him to keep a class size bigger than one or two people. When the student offered to have Helios chase the bird down, he smiled.
“Please do,” he said, “If I had my wand, I’d have already forced him to come down. And I think he realizes that.”
“Hear that, if you don’t come down on your own. You’ll be chased down.” he said, looking up at the bird.
Lullaby attempted to squawk as he flew down onto Mirai’s head, pecking at his hand when he offered it as a perch instead.
“Well, that’s something."

James smiled at the remark about the tests, "Thank Merlin" He mumbled "I was scared I was gonna fail" He explained. "But now I feel better." Helios squawked at the fwooper disappointed he didn't get to chase the bird down. James smiled as he fed the treats to Helios and then pet his back feathers.
He smiled at the Professor's bird "Quite a pretty bird, always did find it a shame that people didn't like their singing, I find it cute really" He said as he pulled out a few more treats holding them out to the bird.

As Lullaby took the treat from the student, eyeing the phoenix carefully.
“Agreed,” he replied, “I didn’t have one on him before we came here. However when reporting I owned one to the Ministry, they insisted I place a silencing charm on Lullaby here.”
He stroked Lullaby’s feathers as the bird ate, holding the treat in it’s claw like a hand. They really were amazing creatures. He looked up at the school, he’d been planning on taking a walk but maybe he should head back. Though it finally occurred to him he’d never gotten the student’s name.
“So, you know who I am but I never did get your name?”

"James King" He introduced himself "Future auror" He bowed his head respectfully then smiled. "I'm the kid usually eating some sort of snack cake in your class" He clarified. He looked over at Helios and took his wand out of the leather sleeve the bird was on. "I can replace the silencing charm with a more muffling one so you can hear his voice but not go crazy" He offered.
James had been studying stealth charms and had come across one that muffled sound so only people in the room could hear it. He had practiced it over a dozen time always succeeding. "He will be able to make noise but it won't be as loud."

Mirai smiled as he heard the boy was looking to be an Auror. They needed good people working in law enforcement. As soon as Lullaby heard he might be able to make sound again, and started jumping on Mirai's head, trying to chirp in agreement.
"Well the Ministry ordered the silencing charm but why not," he said smiling as he felt the bird on his head, "I'm already starting to loose it, and Lullaby with the silencing charm on him will drive me insane much sooner."
This time the bird actually stepped onto his hand as he transferred him to the ground.
"Rather not be the one muffled."

He smiled as he gripped his wand. He waved his wand and a bright light shot from his wand. "That should do it" He mumbled as he holstered the wand. "I use that on Helios during holiday"He says smiling as the phoenix cawed and dropped down to look at Lullaby in either curiosity or maybe in the way a Parent stares at someone else's kid.
"Helios play nice" He warned smiling. He looked at the Professor with a smirk "That needs to be put on every other month to keep him from getting louder then he will be. I'll put it on him before class when it's time" He offered. If he didn't become an auror he was Shoo-in to be the best bird trainer in the wizarding realm.

Mirai shrugged, he could look the spell up on his own but James and his phoenix Helios were quite the interesting pair. "Sure," he said smiled, "And feel free to bring Helios to class with you."Feeling something on his foot he looked down to see Lullaby standing on it. It seemed quite clear that the Fwooper was rather scared of the much larger phoenix. "Well, it seems Lullaby's ready to go back inside," Mirai said, picking the bird up, "It was nice to meet you James."With that he headed back to the castle, Lullaby singing a lovely tune on their way there. OOC: Mirai's going to start going mad if this isn't fixed.

James smiled as he began to walk towards the forest as Helios shot into the air flying in circles above James like a scouting bird would do. James drew his wand knowing that the forest was going to be dangerous with its magical creatures.
He had enjoyed helping Professor Kei and was now ready to go hiking. He had heard rumor of a herd of centaurs hunting in the area and James had to see them in action.
