Selwyn rolled his eyes as yet another student appeared at the window. Maybe locking them out hadn't been a good idea.
"This is transfiguration, not show and tell," he said, although he couldn't help smiling at the kid's initiative. "Your captain won't be happy if I confiscate your broom."
"So! Animate to inanimate transfiguration. I was at Hogwarts not long ago myself so I know how boring this subject gets. Today you'll get to practice on your friends. Or, you know, enemies, I don't really care how much you like each-other."
"Before we start, does anyone know anything about animate to inanimate transfiguration? What makes it easier, what makes it harder? What's likely to kill your best mate while you're doing it? Oh, the incantation might be good?"
((more than one person can answer and feel free to make it up. I'm not looking stuff up for this class, so whether your character is right pretty much comes down to Rule of Cool))

The professor’s cute, was his first thought as the man told him off abet with a smile. He grinned as the professor described the lesson, he’d already done this. What where the proffessor’s questions again… The first was what determines the difficulty, the second was why it’s likely to kill a human, and the last was about the incantation.
Well, the difficultly was based off the strength of the life force of the animate object, which in itself was based on the mobility, intelligence, magical ability, and size of the object. A larger, or more intelligent animal would be harder to transfigure into inanimate objects, and beings like dragons were impossible to transfigure this way.
Question two, why would it kill your best friend? That’s easy, untransfiguration, trying to reverse animate to inanimate transfiguration got harder the larger the objects life force. Humans, once transfigured into inanimate objects, couldn’t be brought back to life, which is why he never used transfiguration in duels. The consequences were much higher than charms works. Also he had a habit of adding his own flair to his charms works, something he couldn’t do in transfiguration. Everything had to be just so.
The third though, the incantation? He smiled at the professor, a trick question. The incantation varied based on the inanimate object you were transfiguring it into. Vera Verto being an example, which turned animate objects into goblets. He grinned, first lesson and he could already prove he wasn’t just a pretty face. Remembering things was something he was good at, the question was what to say in order to get credit without coming off as a know-it-all. First off, he'd wait for a response from someone else.

Cerys wasn't sure about any of the first stuff the professor had said, but she had been reading one of the second year's book and came across a spell which did something like what he was describing. Raising her hand, she spoke up, loudly but carefully. Trying to actually choose her words before she said them for once in her life.
"The incantation for the spell that turns animals into water goblets is Vera Verto," she said. "Though I don't know if it does anything else. Also it's a second year spell and when preformed incorrectly the goblet can have fur or a tail..."
She'd started confident but trailed off at the end as she started saying everything she knew on the subject. She sank lower in her seat, feeling the eyes of the class on her. She shouldn't have said anything after all.

As the first year sank lower and lower into her seat, Tobias decided to speak up. He could turn his answer into saving the little girl instead of being too smart.
“That’s a really good example,” he said, smiling at her, “Vera Verto is one of the incantations to turn an animate object into an inanimate one, the other incantations very off of what inanimate object you are trying to create.”
“Which answers your third question only,” he said turning back to the professor, “To answer the first, the difficulty of this spell is based off of the object’s life force, this is in turn based off the mobility, intelligence, magical ability, and the size of the object. As such it would be easier to transfigure a rat into a water goblet using the spell previously mentioned than it would to turn a creature like a sphinx into one, which would be impossible even for a skilled wizard.”
He took a breath, reminding himself to not say too much, only enough. Be succinct and confident, and they’ll accept anything, especially the truth.
“The second question on why it can be dangerous is based off the information of the first. True animate to inanimate transfiguration removes the life force from the object, so that you have a goblet that will allow to you pour water into it rather than squeak and squirm in your hand. The danger of this full transformation on a witch or wizard is that not only is it extremely difficult but if done correctly, is impossible to untransfigure.”
He smiled as he finished, letting the weight of his last sentence sink in. He’d left out the obvious conclusion that a correctly cast animate to inanimate transfiguration would kill the person. Instead allowing those listening to come to that conclusion on their own. Allow them to process the information to their own conclusion instead of just telling them, and they’ll like you all the more for it. Hopefully.

Charlotte had just been sitting in the classroom, second row from the back, watching everything that had been going on and thinking her usual snide thoughts to herself. She didn't really know anybody in this class and nobody was sitting particularly close enough to hear her mutter the comments, so she just kept quiet. She sighed quietly and listened to the young Hufflepuff girl and the older Gryfindor boy answer the professor's questions. The boy seemed to be answering the questions very carefully, as if wanting to sound intelligent but not wanting to be annoying about it.
Charlotte rolled her eyes. Her least favorite part of class was always the questions and answers. She much preferred to get hands on and just start working on successfully casting the spells. Charlotte was intelligent as far as understanding the concepts, but too many details and talking about concepts that seemed fairly obvious bored her.
She lightly ran her fingers along her wand, eager to begin. Her mind began to drift as she focused on the professors face. He seemed familiar, not in a way like she had known him, but in his aura almost. She began to think about her mother and grandmother who had always had this same feeling about them. Finally, after a moment or two, it had dawned on her. "Oh of course he is…" she said almost silently to herself. This had been the professor that she had heard Veela rumors about. He had to have been part Veela. Most likely more so than herself, maybe a quarter or even half. Charlotte almost felt like this could be something they could relate on, but she had always avoided talking about the Veela in herself and had never met somebody outside of her family who was also part Veela. Sure, sometimes it was an asset, but it wasn't exactly something she shouted to the world and she figured it was best to let it go. Anyways, why would she want to befriend a professor? Might get her a pass on being late now and then. She smirked to herself as she continued to listen to the lesson.

Jax was still waiting impatiently now Box the turtle was pacing angrily across the desk. He had ignored the gryffindor's entrance but after hearing his answer he was kind of surprised. "Didn't you just stay we were practicing this on each other?" He questioned.
Box was still waiting for the Dungbomb and if Jax's calculations were right (they always are)The smell would have built up enough to melt nose hairs which was uncomfortable. He looked at judge and dug in his bag grabbing three packs of nose plugs. He wrote on two of them.
He slid one to Judge the note reading Victor,Put these in...now, Jax. Jax winked at him as he put his own in and tossed another packet to the slytherin girl who sat infront of him. The note read Stinkbomb...Nose hairs melting... Put the plugs in. Though he didn't like Judge, He like the idea of looking out for his dorm mates, Plus he lived with them so it was better not to face their wrath.

Why were the Slytherins always at the back of classes? Selwyn had half a mind to make them move, especially since they all seemed to be whispering or something. But his attention was mainly on the strawberry blonde, who was emanating an aura he was sure nobody else here was aware of. Oh, they could probably feel it, but that was different. Either nobody had ever taught her how to keep herself to herself or she thought distracting her classmates was amusing. He scowled before turning his attention back to the kids actually participating.
A little Hufflepuff was already speaking, and wouldn't you know it, Selwyn had already intimidated her. She trailed off as though she thought she'd said something wrong. He smiled encouragingly at her, to make up for his distraction when she was speaking and because she was a puffle. Puffs gotta stick together, right?
"Yeah, that's good," he said, "but don't worry about years. You wanna learn upper year spells, just come see me."
Next up was the newbie. Who, let's be honest, Selwyn already thought was a bit of a show-off.
He laughed.
"You're one of those kids who reads their textbooks for fun, right?" he said. "They only put that stuff in to stop you all doing anything excessively stupid. I assure you, you can transfigure your best friend into a rock and nothing bad will happen."
"I mean, unless you splinch them. That's possible."

Tobias didn’t read his textbook for fun, he read it because it was the smart thing to do. If you wanted to succeed knowing what you were doing was essential. And Tobias needed to succeed at everything. Unfortunately, knowing stuff meant nothing if what you knew was wrong. He wanted to sink into he chair but instead he just grinned at the professor, shrugging like he couldn’t care less.
“Sounds fun, can I partner with you?” he said.
Yes! Brash flirting to cover up his mistake.
“Professor,” he added in such a lascivious tone that it didn’t sound respectful at all.

If it hadn't been for that final word, he might have missed it entirely, so Selwyn thanked Merlin for the kid's artlessness.
"No."
Selwyn backed up from the boy a little, trying to figure out whether he was affecting him. Or anyone else, for that matter.
"Maybe you'd like to partner with," he looked down at the roll, "Charlotte."

Charlotte made short eye contact with Selwyn, then quickly looked away not wanting him to assume she was staring. He seemed to be reading her, or at least contemplating something in his head. She continued to look down tracing the edge of her desk with her finger, listening to the conversation. She let out a short quiet laugh when he asked the Gryffindor if he read textbooks for fun. She had to admire the sassy joke. Her head shot back up when he told the boy to partner with her. She let out a breath and sat back with a small smirk.
"I'm not sure he would have as much fun with me, but I'm sure I could teach him a thing or two." She said poking fun at his wrong answer. She glanced over at the kid he had been talking to and then back at the professor. "Might be hard to read textbooks as a rock though." she smirked again. She honestly wasn't one to brag but she was one to banter a bit, and she was now more engaged in what was happening in the class.

Tobias had expected the rejection. He’d been flirting with the teacher after all, and shouldn't have expected anything else. But he found himself oddly disappointed. The man was attractive after all, he justified. And as the professor took a few steps back, Tobias couldn’t help feeling sad. More than usually as well. Then he heard who he would be pairing with, a girl. Really? He had no doubt of her skill or anything. But something made him really want to do something crazy, to impress the people around him.
The girl he was to be partnered with started talking however, and he had to smile. He liked her wit. Maybe this wouldn’t be dull after all.
“I wouldn't know,” he said with a grin, turning his tone playfully mocking “But I promise to let you try and read once you are one.”
He smirked right back at her. This is the type of girl he could get along with.

"Actually, Charlotte, I'm absolutely sure you can teach him a thing or two, and about more than just transfiguration," Selwyn said. "You have my full permission to do so."
He waved a hand as if to tell her to get started already, and kicked his feet up on the desk. This ought to be interesting, anyway.

Box Squeaked in disdain and Jax gripped the edge of his desk."c'mon open the drawer" he whispered under his breath. He was growing impatient. This was the longest he had gone with not seeing his prank work. He put a death grip on the desk waiting.
Box giving up when into his shell and made weird growling noises. "I know right" He mumbled to the turtle feeling sorry for the little guy.

Charlotte rolled her eyes but formed a small smile at her new partners reply. She enjoyed the company of those who could deal with her sass. She laughed lightly at the professors permission to teach the gryffindor "a thing or two". She stood up, straightened out her shirt and pushed her hair over her shoulder before walking over to the Gryffindor.
"I'm Charlotte, as you heard." She stated. "What's your name again?" She paused, "Although I'm sure it won't matter what I call you when you're a rock." She smirked leaning on his desk while tapping her wand against her leg. "Which type of rock would you prefer? Igneous? Metamorphic?" she asked tilting her head with a cocky grin.

As the teacher gave her full permission to wreck his ass, he had a short moment of regret. This wasn’t his best subject after all. Regardless, he smirked at the girl as she walked over to him, continuing to talking shit.
“Honey, if I was a rock, I’d be magma,” he said, grinning, “and the name is Tobias. You don’t have to worry, I’ll be so kind as to leave you with enough brain cells to remember it when you're stone.”
He grinned. Digging his own grave but smiling anyway was something he did on a daily basis. Normally he could hex his way out of those situations. But this was transfigurations class, not charms or in the hallways. He really should spend more time practicing transfigurations than reading up on it.
