Davina Jade I was reading a book today that made me think about running into you the other day. “Even chance meetings are the result of karma… Things in life are fated by our previous lives. That even in the smallest events there’s no such thing as coincidence.” What do you think? Personally, I think it's bullshit. Sorry if this is weird or whatever you want to call it. I don't really give a shit. It's by Haruki Murakami from his novel Kafka on the Shore. He's a muggle author. Have you ever read him?

Noel Beckett I didn’t know you were into muggle literature. Either way, I’ve only heard of him by name since my mum is a Professor of Literature in London. I’m sure she’s tried to make me read something of his lately, but I don’t always take her recommendations to heart. As for the quote… I like the idea of karma, simply because everyone deserves whatever they put out into the world. However, he is describing it as merely as an instrument used by Fate, which is a concept I’m not entirely convinced of. I don’t like the idea that my life has already been predetermined and there’s nothing I can do about it. PS. This is kind of weird since you’ve never owled me before and we’ve only had one conversation ever. However, I don’ t discourage weirdness and I appreciate not giving a shit when appropriate.

Davina Jade Well I didn't know your mum was a school teacher either. My parents live in London as well. They own a foster home for wizard children. You should listen to her. It wasn't such a bad book. Is simply not liking something enough to convince you against it's validity? I agree with you. I don't like it either, but I think your reasoning (or lack of) is weak. Fate can be a result of karma, but karma implies some sort of free will. Karma isn't the result. It's the driving force, it is the cause to the effect. Many say free will is a vain concept of man though. That the rules of the universe are a series of calculations that amount to the present. We're just organic machines that follow the same rules as the rest of the universe. Maybe they're right, but that eliminates ethical responsibility, and nullifies the concept of karma. Anyway, I prefer muggle lit over magical lit. I also used to make friends because they didn't want me to smash their face in. I want to get to know you, so I'm owling you. Don't know how else to do it. How do you usually get to know people?

Noel Beckett If I read every book my mum recommended to me, I would be blind by my thirties. The summer holiday is usually when I catch up on what she wants me to read since I can’t really escape her.
I simplified my opinion on Fate, so yea it might sound weak because philosophy really shouldn’t be paraphrased. There are plenty of manmade concepts that are probably all wrong, which is fun to think about, including Karma and Fate. But I guess that’s the closest man has been able to get to. Who knows. Maybe we’re all full of shit. Where’s the accountability there?
Anyway… I don’t really have a game plan for making friends. At least I don’t think I do? Sometimes I make friends, sometimes that doesn’t work out. I mean, the last time I tried to be your friend, I failed really hard, right? But seriously, no hard feelings. But, I guess whatever you’re trying may work since you’re not doing the smashing part anymore. Which is pretty cool, by the way.

Davina Jade That's true. Sorry, it's just that it's been something on my mind a lot lately. Not just because I saw you in the library either. Other stuff, private stuff. You know, when things go round and round in your mind, you eventually have to tell someone before you go crazy and like, strip down and serenade Headmaster Murphy in your skivvies or something. No one wants to see that. I don't believe in the organic machines thing by the way. It might apply to some animals, but people are different. I don't really know what the hell I believe. So glad Queen of Cool Davina Jade approves. It's been working, kind of. I have two friends, but I still want to smash one of their faces in. His name is Judge.

Noel Beckett Having Judge as a friend is no great accomplishment, and you should trust your instinct about smashing his face. Just be wary of any… diseases. You might have to try a little bit harder on the friends department. I recommend blackmail and trickery. Or food. I guess I understand when you have something you’re holding on to with no one to tell. Jasper knows almost everything about me, but even then it’s still not everything. I still hold things to myself for whatever reason, and I usually have to exercise to shake off that feeling you’re talking about. It’s a pain in the ass but it’s better than serenading Murphy. So if it’s not general weirdness that has changed you like everyone suspects, why? Just curious.

Davina Jade Judge isn't so bad, but I'm also not exactly his type. I imagine the suffering of the fairer sex is a bit more considerable. The circumstances surrounding our friendship are also unusual. Doesn't change my frustrations. Blackmail? Trickery? Davina, I believe that's counterproductive to what I'm trying to accomplish. Here I thought you would be a good influence on me. It's a... long story. I don't mind telling it, but it would be easier in person. How about coffee this weekend in Hogsmeade? (Food- see, I'm learning!)

Noel BeckettVictor is... Victor but I suppose unusual circumstances and how one reacts to them can always be surprising. I never said I was a good influence. Food is the good influence and for me, that counts as bribery. I have a lot of shopping to do on Saturday, so maybe like around 6 before we have to come back to the castle?
