tralaLachlan looked at the drinks menu he'd been handed and tried to figure out where to start. It was his birthday. He was getting cut off tomorrow. He considered it his sacred duty to spend as much of his parents' money tonight as possible. There was a lot on the list. Some of it was mediocre at best, gross at worst. Fishy Green Ale; who drank that stuff? But the really hard part was choosing between the quality stuff, and whatever would get him hammered fastest. It wasn't like Lachlan had waited till he was legal to start drinking. Few witches and wizards did since muggles could hardly be expected to detect a magically forged ID. So Lachlan knew how good his tolerance was in muggle standards, but magical alcohol was a different matter. It said here Knotgrass Mead had a 23% alcohol content. That was tempting. invited: Llewellyn Ludlow & anyone else who cares to drop in

Kris smiled as he walked in holding a large bag full of books and sitting down. "Fishy green ale barkeep" He said throwing his money to the man who caught it. Kris was a regular and if he paid the price with a little extra he could get his alcohol fine.
He looked over at Lachlan and smiled "I recommend it" He stated as his was served as he chugged it down and shivered. "Tastes like piss but damn it gets you there" He had always compared it to the muggle alcohol Yagermeister due to its horrid taste. "Mead can't go wrong with I guess" It was obvious Lachlan had looked over the ale but everyone did, even he at first.

Then, Kris Carter was suddenly with him. Lachlan couldn't tell whether the Ravenclaw had decided that since Lachlan had uncovered his secret they were now friends, or if he thought he had something to prove.
"Thanks for the tip, but I have a good reason to pace myself tonight," he said.
Looked like quality was gonna win out over quantity this evening. Even if it was only because of irrational dislike.
"Right now I'm tossing up between the Elf Wine and Superior Red," he went on. "What do you think?"

"Neither they both taste like the barkeeps dish water" He said smiling. He didn't care whether they were friends, Kris was in a good mood and saw a schoolmate struggling over alcohol options. He simply figured if he would have to look at the menu he needed help. "Honey Ale" He says "Lots of kick and its sweet as hell too"
He threw a few more coins to the barkeep "Honey Ale, 2" He said smiling. The trips to places like this were what he went to Hogwarts for. He felt truly at home when he was drinking and the best places to get drunk were always in Hogsmeade.

Oh god. Kris was going to become that friend. The one you described as "he's okay really" when he wasn't okay, ever. The one who might glass you if you looked at him the wrong way. The one who never had a girlfriend because girls were smarter than that. The one who, when you got right down to it, you called your friend because you were a little bit scared of what might happen if you didn't.
Lachlan wasn't set up to deal with that friend. Not short of killing him in his sleep, anyway.
"There's no rule that you have to like wine," Lachlan shrugged, sure that Kris was going to try to persuade him that real men drank beer, "but I do."
He ordered a bottle of the Superior Red. He'd always wondered what made it so superior. Perhaps only virgin pureblood girls were allowed to crush the grapes.
Kris had already ordered his ale, which irritated Lachlan as it meant he'd be drinking an entire bottle of wine by himself and that never looked good, but perhaps this was his chance to get away. He left the bar and wandered to a free table.

[ wearing] [ playing] As he strung his last chord and let it ring he wasn't at all surprised to look up and see a total unreaction from the bars patrons. With being muggle born now becoming increasingly en vogue there was a certain novelty to traditional musicianship that swept the wizard pubs like wildfire. Still, at the end of the day, it was like any other dive crawl where no one gave a shit for anything other than their stomachs and their loins. And Llewellyn, although he was really all about the artistry, couldn't care just so long as the barkeep gave him his coin. And she did! Plus a little extra for being such a good sport. It wasn't much, but for a little bit of pocket spending money Llewellyn surmised it was well worth the effort of doing something he already loved. Scrupulously he packed away his guitar and made his way through the pub with the soft case slung over his shoulder, his pockets weighed down by the three galleon and a handful of sickles. But he stopped short when he caught sight of Lachlan, detouring through the tables and offering a neighborly wave. "Lachlan, what's good? Saw you in that fight, hope she didn't fuck your day up too bad. Sorry I couldn't stick around. Us warm blooded mammals have no chill," he greeted cheesily. Inwardly he was actually quite proud of the joke but it was unlikely he would get the response he was hoping for. The response he was expecting was most likely going to be a gratuitous eye roll.

Lachlan had left him sitting there alone just as the ales came and Kris shrugged as he grabbed a newspaper out of his bag and began reading flipping through the pages. "Nope" He mumbled as he through it behind him. He chugged down the first glass and then decided to nurse the either sipping from it gently.
He leaned against the bar as he fiddled with one of the books in the bag. He drank alone a lot and this was usually how it went. He got hammered and most of the time wondered around Hogwarts as a duck. He thought for a second "Maybe I'll be a fly this time and spy on the Hufflepuffs" He mumbled before taking a drink.

It might have been because he was still preoccupied with Kris that Lachlan didn't get the joke right away. He'd have said that for sure, but sometimes Lachlan was just missed the obvious so his reaction was a snort of amusement followed up immediately by a more genuine laugh as the meaning sunk in.
"Oh, I get it," he said. "Nah don't worry 'bout it. Luce's just..."
He shook his head to indicate his inability to explain the complexities of his sister's mind. Besides, if he tried, he'd doubtless end up also explaining his relationship with her and that could lead nowhere good. Better to avoid thinking about it at all.
"Anyhow, she's not here now, thank Merlin. Sit down? My shout," he offered. "Carter turned up just a minute ago and I get the feeling he's a nasty drunk."

Llewellyn pendulumed mildly but ultimately decided to sit down, sliding his guitar case underneath the table. In truth, he wasn't a big drinker. There were plenty of poisons he regularly indulged in but alcohol was not one of them. Sure he drank, but it was usually socially and even then it was not in large quantities. In all honesty, he was a bit of a light weight. He supposed he didn't maintain the best image for his hardy stereotype. But... he was lonely, and that loneliness had become immeasurably burdensome. He was eager to prattle onto anyone that would listen because Llewellyn was a social boy that craved attention from anyone that would give it.
This had been a recent realization of his. His isolation had also allowed for an abundance of self-reflection, and to be perfectly honest, Llewellyn rarely liked this kind of plain faced awareness.
"I wouldn't know anything about that. I don't have any siblings," he lied. No siblings that counted, anyway. Llewellyn had been raised as a single child, and he was his Mother's sole offspring. His two half brothers could kick rocks for all he cared.
"I didn't know siblings fought like that," he continued idly. "That was pretty savage dude. Do you like, owl your mum and tell on each other and stuff? Because, like, fuck that. I guess that's just nature though, huh? Competition for survival. Explains why I'm such a shit dueler I guess. Anyway, I dunno Carter, but I guess I'll trust your judgement. You seem like a trustworthy guy."
The compliment wasn't deliberate but it was candid. Llewellyn was just the kind of person that blindly trusted others, even if he hardly knew them.
"So what are you drinking there?" he motioned across the table and leaned forward onto his elbows to better read the label.

He drained the cup and smiled as he looked around the person who was playing guitar had just gotten done and sat down next to LAchlan. He looked back to the Barkeep and smiled "Bottle of firewhiskey and then a bottle of rum." He smiled paying and waited for the barkeep to bring the bottles out.
Once they arrived he smiled and got up putting the rum in his bag for later and holding the firewhiskey. He smiled as he gathered his things and walked to the exit. "Later Lachlan" He said as he passed their table and walked out the door taking a drink of firewhiskey.

Lachlan laughed again, but it was bitter.
"If I owled our parents, they'd probably send me a howler to stop whining. Or stop bothering them," he replied. "Kinda why I'm here."
He tilted the bottle toward Llewellyn so he could get a better look just as Carter passed them by, this time holding a bottle of firewhiskey. Lachlan thought he had problems, but at least he wasn't a sot.
"It's some expensive stuff the Malfoys make. Or made? Dunno if they're even around anymore. Anyhow, it's good and it's using up my parents money and that's all I'm interested in right now."
That felt like he was talking too much about himself, so Lachlan tried to turn the conversation somewhere else. Like what had brought Llewellyn down to the village.
"You play here a lot?"

Lachlan's bitter laugh and the subsequent comment did not cohere to Llewellyn's idea of parental guidance. That is to say, no matter how angry or embittered Llewellyn became with his situation, there was still a very real maternal bond that existed between himself and his Mum. Even when she had sent him away to boarding school Llewellyn ultimately forgave her. After all, she had just been trying to do what was best for her son, even if that meant sending him away.
But Llewellyn tried not to dwell on home too much. It brought up too many thorny sentiments, and he was out to have a good time.
"I don't know shit about wine to be honest," he responded plainly, squinting his eyes at the label and rolling his thumb over the stamped design. He was certain a ten dollar bottle tasted about the same as a two-hundred year old bottle, though his palate was severely limited. When the conversation turned to him, however, he looked up with a somewhat muddled expression.
"I play here a bit, yeah. I used to have a drummer but things didn't work out. I played in London this summer too, nothing big, just little places," came his ambiguous response, having no desire to delve further into that conversation. "I do love it though. It seems silly because it's such a tiresome muggle thing to do, but it makes me feel like, I don't know, normal. It's a good feeling,"
Thoughtfully he paused, "I'm gonna head out for a smoke. Wanna come with?"

"There's not much to know," Lachlan replied. "They talk about bouquet and do that swirly thing, but I find you can generally tell how good a wine's gonna be by how much it costs."
Llewellyn went on to talk about his music and Lachlan cocked his head to the side, trying to line up how someone could love a thing, yet still think it was tiresome. Lachlan would never say that about dancing, even if he was trying to be cool. Though, if he was trying to be cool there were probably a lot of things he wouldn't do in the first place.
He shrugged and snagged the bottle from the table.
"Sure, I guess."

There was fresh powder on the ground and flurries spinning down from the night sky. Llewellyn propped the door open for Lachlan on his way out, zipping up his jacket and pulling a fluffy hood up over top of an already fluffy head of hair, though he didn't entirely mind the biting chill. In truth, the bar was rather warm and for a boy like Llewellyn that always seemed to be running at a million degrees, the frigid wind was a welcome change to his rosacea flushed cheeks. He walked a bit of ways away, leading the boy away from the entrance of the bar and beneath a nearby lamppost fueled by a magical blue flame that bounced of the pallidly of the snow. It caused an odd sort of glowing effect that Llewellyn had always thought was very neat, but probably inconsequential to the majority of other wizards. Once beneath the lamppost he sniffled, his nose mutinous due to the sudden change of temperature. He pulled a tin cigarette case out from his jacket with the initials engraved E.L. and popped the lid, slipping a spliff out and into his fingers. Gingerly he pinched one end and began burning the tightly rolled tip, waving his zippo back and forth in a pendulating motion.
"So, I don't mean to pry, but if you're here to spend all your parents money and shit, then why didn't you invite your friends? It's always better to waste some rich assholes money with your mates than alone," he pointed out. It was a shitty things to say, but he didn't care. Being angry at his father was basically an integral part of his being at this point, and Llewellyn knew a bit more than rich assholes than he openly led on. When the joint cherried, he snapped the zippo closed and took a long drag, tilting his chin up to exhale a long strand of whispy exhaust before holding it out in offering towards the Slytherin boy.

Lachlan started. It wasn't what Llewellyn had said that made him furious, though.
"Shut it," he snapped, leaving Llewellyn's arm outstretched between them.
"They're my family. I can curse 'em to hell and back if I want to. But you shut your fucking mouth."
