Bored was not a good look for someone like Penny, since whenever Penny got bored, things tended to get... modified. She didn't like the word arson. She was an artiste, please.
Anyhow, the old abandoned hut down near the forest was practically falling down under the weight of its own thatch. As if anybody would notice anything she did here, not least a quick fag break.
She stood with her back to the hut's wall, sheltering the cigarette from the wind while she applied her wand to the tip and waited for it to light. There were a couple of coughs before she could breathe freely. Penny was still new to this small corruption.
She kicked idly at the mud beneath her shoes, still frozen rock-hard, and wondered idly whether the effort of breaking into the hut would be worth the small pickings she was bound to find there. Then again, those pickings might be magical, even if they had gone off.

"accio cigarette"
With a little shake the cigarette loosened itself from the small girls fingers and whizzed through the air into his hand.
"Cigarettes..." he mused "Trying to die early I presume? Or are you just that desperate to get into detention?" he asked rhetorically and with a quick snap, broke the tiny stick into two and let it drop to the ground disgustedly. If it was one thing he hated more than rule breakers, it was those who broke them from his own house. He wasn't too familiar with her but he had seen her a few times, catching her outside of curfew, or sometimes suspiciously trespassing the yards. He learned to keep an eye when he could, and shift some eyes the other way without having to physically intervene. But smoking out in the day time.. now that was one thing he couldn't idly stand back on. Besides, he suspected there was something else up. Smoking seemed innocent to the kind of capabilities he assumed she possessed.
He shifted forward, eyeing her suspiciously as if he were an adult or father figure.
"What are you doing here anyway" he asked, staring at her inquisitively.

Penny didn't even have to recognise the voice to know who it was. As her ciggy tugged itself out of her admittedly lax grip, she turned on a toe and found Roberts standing a few feet behind her.
"Oh hey, Stalker," she greeted him cheerfully. "I have a reputation to uphold, as if you didn't know."
Penny had no idea what Roberts' deal was. Most everyone else was too preoccupied with the insane staff in this school to worry about an insane third year who didn't have the power to get them killed. Yet. But Roberts was weird. She suspected he got the same pleasure from memorising rules that most people got from turning their pets into teapots.
She walked over to where he'd flicked her cigarette onto the ground and picked up the filter-end. She grinned as she lit what was left of it.
"Is there some new rule about being down here or something?" she asked.

"s- stalker?" he choked, eyes nearly bulging from their sockets. He had always assumed he'd taken on a rather low key approach to handling her. "I--- well.." he began, "Just" but he found troubling in finding the right words to describe the position he took. He grasped at the neck of his tie and loosened it, as if that had been the problem for his inability to speak and spoke plainly. "I wouldn't say stalker, more like a curious observer" he coughed, as if that changed things. " anyway--- it doesn't matter. I'm not the one who--- HEY! are you kidding me? ??" he gawked as she simply picked up the broken half and lit it up. He huffed loudly and bared his teeth but decided not to intervene, it wouldn't last that long and it was better than having to explain why he was obsessed with keeping her out of trouble. well I wouldn't call it obsessed... he answered to himself. But perhaps he was a bit obsessed? nonsense. "Is there some new rule about being down here or something?" she asked. "As a matter of fact....." he began, chest puffed and raised and ready to really hand her one when he realized with defeat... " There isn't. But I'm not about to leave and wait for you to do something stupid. So whatever you plan on doing I hope you're okay with me being here every second of every hour of the next 3 years" he said rather indignantly and proud of himself, his hands already finding their place properly on his hips and he was just a mere seconds away from blowing a raspberry at her before catching himself in the act.

"Dude," Penny shook her head at him. "Don't worry, I would totally stalk me if I was you."
She smiled nastily.
"So what you're saying is," she said, "you'll be available to help me with whatever I think up."
She puffed smoke in his direction, just because it would annoy him. The cigarette was almost finished anyway.
"Sounds good to me, you can start now if you like."

The moment that nasty smile appeared on her lips he knew that nothing good could come out of anything else that left her lips. He felt tight clenching in his stomach as if he had just agreed to something without realizing. Why didn't he just keep his distance as he had? Why did he think he could be so bold as to interfere and good might come out of it? As if she'd look to him with thankful eyes and swear a new path of life. A law-abiding life, one where she wouldn't cop a smoke behind an old tattered hut, or lose house points. House points! Gah.
"I----" he choked, his hand grabbed a tuft at the top of his hair, tugging at it anxiously as if torn by what he had just committed himself to.. did he commit it? His mind desperately tried to draw up what he last said but he was coming up blank.
"I---" he tried again, but his shoulders fell with a drop to his side and even his head seemed to hang downward "what do you need help with?" he asked defeated, his voice small and distant. The former air in his chest puffed, deflated, lacking the vigor and energy he had possessed just moments ago.

Penny couldn't help but laugh as she quirked her head to the side as though Roberts had just said something puzzling.
"You really are too much," she said.
She had no idea what it meant, but it filled time.
"I don' need your help, but since you'll be here anyway... right?" she said with a shrug.
"Now, wha'd'y' know bout this place?" she asked. "Any stories? Any good gear inside? What I need y' help with kinda depends on whatcha say so be a good boy and don't leave anything out."

So..... she relied on him. Dale stopped himself before grinning, her plans seemed pretty harmless and juvenile and although he was a morally uptight most of the time. This he felt like.. he could work with.
"well" he began, exhaling as he paused for effect.
"There used to be a Giant that lived in here but nobody saw much of him, all they ever saw was his shadow or his bedraggled hair. Nobody thought much of it and nobody dared bother him. But there was something off..... something different." he inhaled, now taking the opportunity to look.
"After graduation and people parted ways.. it was strange. How some students just seemed to vanish. One day however, a brave student decided to check on the house. See the old Giant himself, but the Giant wasn't inside. No. So the kid decided to go in anyway. And d'ya know what he found in there?"
Dale asked rhetorically, as if she'd know.
"I don't either. That student was never found again. Not even a single piece" he added with effect.
The whole story was a myth, an urban legend he heard in his first year. Nobody believed the stories, and why would they? How could Dumbledore, one of the greatest Wizards of all time allow such a vicious beast to live just beside the castle walls. It was almost as preposterous as the idea of an adult sized Basilisk freely living underneath the castle for so many years.

Penny burst out laughing so hard, she almost spat in his face.
"Um, good try. It's not gonna stop me breaking in, though," she informed him.
"You know that's what I'm here for, right?"
The not-so-sweet smile appeared again.
"And what you so kindly volunteered to help me out with."
