Stoppering the last bottle in her 2nd years assignment, Selina was kind of impressed with them. Not everyone was perfect, in fact there were only a few, but not one had gotten it completely wrong. They were still at a stage where they didn't realize that even the slightest variation could render their potion inert. She had only been Potions Mistress for a few short years, but she was starting to see the trend in how her students learn through their years. Of course, there were always the outliers. The ones that happened to be exceptional and those that were straggling behind. She had directed one of those students to stop by her classroom right before dinner; he had been struggling since the year before, so this meeting was way past due. He was at a point where needed to decide what he wanted to do after graduation, and if Potions was going to be a deciding factor in his success. Regardless of his future plans, Selina's own plans were an attempt to help the young Gryffindor improve in her class. Writing out the results of her 2nd years, she mentally tallied the other assignments she had to grade before the end of the week while she waited for Cadence Strife to arrive.

To Cadence, Potions class was...it was his favorite class to sleep in. He could often hear his father's voice when he slept telling him how he was meant for so much more, how if he would just apply himself he would have made a percent slytherin. However he often shooed that voice away. He felt like if he would have been sorted into Slytherin, it would be too easy to fit into that mold.
They were all the same. Bratty, unsuceeding, want to be know it all's who knew nothing. The females probably sat back, applied their makeup and buffed their nails and the guys worked out, while pretending to perfect every spell ever taught.
Besides Cadence had been placed in Gryffindor, so that was that. This teacher though. He went and stood in the back.
Cadence: There's nothing you can do to help me. I know, you are a teacher and you want to try because I am one of your students but there is nothing that can help me here. I say we chalk it up to effort and give both you and I, a passing grade. The way I see it, we both win and no one loses any more time than we already have.

Aside from her class schedule, Selina's calendar was starting to fill up with grading, taking up chunks of her time. She didn't know whether to hate herself for assigning so much homework, or hating herself for nitpicking the assignments which made her grading take longer.
Selina was about to start planning for her next trip to the Apothecary when Cadence entered, immediately going on the defense before she would even welcome him. His definition of a proposition made her head tilt slightly, her expression becoming serious. "So what you're saying is that I should ignore my duties as your Professor and just... give you a passing grade?" Standing from her desk abruptly, she walked around her desk and pointed at one of the chairs, motioning him to sit. "Twenty points from Gryffindor for attempting to talk your way out of this." Of all the students, she hadn't expected Cadence to act this way. She knew Headmaster Murphy was acting strangely since he lost the election for Minister for Magic, but she couldn't let her students think they could talk to her this way.
Leaning on her desk, Selina rubbed her temple in an attempt to keep her temper in check. "What exactly do you plan to do when you graduate, Cadence?" she asked the young Gryffindor gently.

Cadence: Art,
he said as he took the class room into focus. Art came, well not naturally to him but it came easier to him than most things.
Cadence: I want to paint because in the midst of all the things that I do not understand about myself, about this school, about what I'm meant to do here..it's the only thing that makes sense. I am not intentionally disrespecting your potions class, it just does not relate to me like art.
It was not much but..he shook his head as he leaned against a wall.
Cadence: I get it. I'm almost able to be out of here and I slack hardcore. So assuming you have an idea on how to help me, what's up your sleeve?
He did not know if he trusted Ms. Roy, but he could not just go around being mouthy he supposed. It was fun to a point though, as if teachers had not been students at one point and time. It was not like he was going to graffiti up this place. Also, he blinked at her a couple of times. The way he understood it people only rubbed their temples when they were not feeling well or had anger issues.
Cadence: You need a time-out.
He was dead serious. Time outs were not just for children.
Cadence: Before you deduct anymore points from Gryffindor, I'm not being a jerk. I just mean a time out helps with anger and or not feeling well. There's also this other thing, if I ever come to learn potions a little more, I will give you some.
He shrugged as he finally took a seat.

Taking in a slow breath, Selina took a seat on her desk and listened to her student talk about his future. At least he had an idea of what he wanted to do. At his age, Selina had no idea what to do with herself, so she had taken care to do well in all her classes just to keep her options open. Perhaps that wasn't the strategy for this particular student. Giving him a tiny smile, she could only sympathize to a point. "I understand, Cadence, but I can't just let you fail and you can't come up with bargains to try to fix it."
Folding her hands on her lap she sighed softly and glanced at the door, waiting for her other student. "But, yes, I do have a plan that will hopefully get you back on track. I get it that Potions has nothing to do with your aspirations, but it's too late now. You've already enrolled in my class and you have to give it your best shot." A knock on the door made Selina's amber eyes look at the door again. Perfect timing. "Enter."

It would have been easier if she'd just been given detention. In fact, Davina had expected it. But when the Potions Mistress had called her to her office at the end of the day, the Slytherin knew it wasn't going to be so easy. Perhaps she would luck out and just get lectured; she was one of her best students. Ok, so maybe she shouldn't have ruined Regina Blackwoods potion in the middle of class with an extra dose of powdered kneazle claw, but she wouldn't stop squawking about the different colors she was going to dye her lifeless, greasy hair. Davina was on the verge of pulling out her own beautiful, luxurious hair and needed her to talk about something else already. Oops, Regina's Potion blew up in her face. Either way, Professor Roy had given Davina that disappointed look that was supposed to mean something.
The Slytherin Common Room had been empty when Davina walked through to go face the music before she headed out to dinner. The corridors were empty, and she arrived shortly before knocking on the Professors door, hearing her voice on the other side. Stepping through the threshold, Davina's practiced innocent face dropped to see that she wasn't alone. Seeing Cadence in there was unexpected, and they seemed to be in deep conversation. "Uh... sorry, am I too early?" Because she could definitely come back at another time when the Professor was less worried about Davina's sabotage during class.

He went to go speak when he heard words that were not coming from him or Ms. Roy. Oh..no..
Cadence did not really do well around females because they just had too much estrogen. Cadence did not do well around Slytherins either because, well in his honest opinion, they were spoiled brats.
He was already formulating what the teacher might have in mind. Maybe, just maybe the girl was not here particularly for him, but why would she be here right now? He sighed and shook his head since he felt like Ms. Roy had just killed him with a bullet. He turned and looked at the teacher with a look that said I always knew you disliked me but this is just absurd. Still he figured he might as well break the ice to Davina Jade.
So he put his hand out.
Cadence: I need to pass this class so..
If he had to use this girl's knowledge to pass this class, technically it was the teacher's fault if Davina did not teach him anything since he had just wanted to bribe Ms. Roy and get it over with. He liked to push the line sometimes though, what could he say, he just thought it was being overly confident.
He forced his hand into hers and began to shake it.
Cadence: I'm going to need to borrow your brain, just where potions is concerned anyway.

"No, you're just in time, Davina," she insisted waving her student in. The Slytherin was a smart one, but easily stirred up by her classmates. She was generally quiet and a hard worker in Selina's class, but every once in a while she witnessed the brunette just turn an odd corner of behavior. One minute her 5th years were working peacefully with some appropriate chatter here and there, and suddenly Ms. Blackwoods cauldron was overflowing with sludge of an attractive, royal purple color. Regina had look mortified, but Davina made no efforts in hiding the satisfied smirk on her caramel features. The Potions Mistress was already aware that detention was not an effective deterrent for someone like Ms. Jade.
Before Selina could ease Davina into her partnership with Cadence, he had already jumped the wand and asked for the Slytherin's brain power. Selina smirked a little. "I'm going to assign Cadence under your tutorship," she clarified for the young woman with finality. This wasn't a request.

Okay so if she wasn't early. then why was Cadence here to witness her punishment? Davina was given her answer soon enough when she was suddenly shaking his hand and... putting her brains on loan? She didn't dislike Cadence like she did with Victor or Dale, they actually were on friendly terms. Davina just had no interest in tutoring him, or anyone for that matter. Wasn't this Professor Roy's job? Why was she even here?
Trying to stop herself from resorting to an angered outburst, Davina paused before clasping her hands together in a peaceful gesture. "Look, Professor, I know what I did was against the rules and I should apologize to Regina, and I will," she insisted emphatically. "But firstly, I'm not going to be a very good tutor and secondly, Cadence is just beyond my help." She gave Cadence an apologetic look; sure she gave a lot of her classmates a hard time, but they usually deserved it.
"There has to be a different punishment you can give me and I will happily accept. But not tutoring." That was a lie, but she was trying to manipulate some sympathy from the woman at all costs without going overboard. Any punishment the Professor decided on was going to be annoying and Davina would hate every second of it, but this was just a horrible idea.

He slowly shrugged as he put his hands behind his head. He'd admit that he was bad but it was one thing when he admitted it and completely different hearing it come out of someone else's mouth. However the truth was the truth.
Cadence: I tried to bri..er..plead the same case and got nothing. Too bad you walked in before I whipped out the puppy dog eyes.
Now he was just being Cadence. As much as people seen and slightly associated him, people did not really know him. That he was not comfortable enough to allow yet. Selina Roy though. Taking his hands down from his head he turned to the teacher.
Cadence: Excuse us a second please Davina.
He was nice to Davina. It was true maybe she did not deserve it but he was not a mean person or that mean rather, especially since he thought Davina for the most part was just misunderstood.
He slightly took Ms. Roy by the hand and pulled her into the nearest corner. He put his foot up against the nearest desk so for the next few seconds she was sort of trapped in. He looked at Ms. Roy and spoke.
Cadence: You should let Davina off the hook. I mean, you should tutor me yourself. I'm willing to learn more than potions from you anyway.
Now it was still true, that females freaked him out and made him awkward, but this woman he would have. Not today, not tomorrow, but eventually.
Cadence: I mean, I get it your like 40, but that's okay. That just means you have more experience in stuff that I don't yet.
He winked at her and then slightly kissed her on the cheek.
Cadence: It'd have absolutely no strings attached. Sounds fun right?

Selina listened to Davina's protests this time, not convinced by any of her arguments. The girl was trying to snake her away out of it, but was a little slicker than her Gryffindor counterpart. But not by much. "This is not a punishment, Davina," she answered lightly, "but you will complete this assignment to make up for disrupting my class." Of course, it was the same thing, but Slytherins weren't the only one that could turn a word or two.
Selina was quickly coaxed to the side by Cadence, out of Davina's earshot, and the next couple of moments created a heated rage that boiled from within. Cadence sealed his proposition with an uninvited kiss which made Selina step back and push Cadence a foot back with a magical force born from her bare hand. "Thirty points from Gryffindor," she hissed angrily. "And you will report immediately the next time you are summoned by myself and your Head of House when we decide what your penance shall be." Stepping away, the Potions Mistress went back to her desk and stood behind it, using is as an obstacle from her and her students, possible for their own protection. "Davina, you will tutor Cadence and report his progress to me weekly, no exceptions." Her friendliness had disappeared and her patience was long lost. "Cadence your grade will improve under Davina's instruction," she demanded before pausing, glaring at Cadence. "Be sure to never approach an unwilling female like that ever again, Mr. Strife."
Striking the air, slamming her door open to echo its protest down the corridor, she pointed away from her office. "Out."

Cadence was horrible. The moment it happened he knew it was crossing a line but he did not regret it. He could not help what his mind found attractive. That was the last thing from his mind at the moment though. Thanks to Ms. Roy's magical force from her bare hands, his right hand had smacked directly into the wall, which normally would not have been a problem but his knee jerk reaction was to clench his fist which caused not only his right hand but his knuckles to hit the wall too.
He felt the snap of his knuckles as they slightly popped out of place and the two belonging to his index and bird finger broke, so much so the bone protruded out of the two of them.
It was such a sight that at first he did not even hear Ms. Roy continuing to belittle him. He stared down at his hand. How in the total hell was he supposed to do anything artistic now. It was true he could find someone to heal it, but he was too stubborn to do that. Now he finally heard what Ms. Roy was saying. This completely sucked because now he was going to have to become a lefty until this healed.
Cadence: Lesson learned.
Yet the irony of it all but anyone who heard him knew he was just being rude.
Cadence : Davina, come on before I physically put Ms. Roy in a permanent time out.
He got it, crossing lines with a teacher was wrong but hadn't he just told her that art pretty much was the ONLY thing that he got and her having to what prove she was his superior was going to make him a lefty. That he could not forgive.

The Professor tried to sugarcoat Davina's punishment, but Davina knew she was screwed. Tutoring was the last thing she wanted to do with her free time. She was trying to think of another roundabout argument to defend herself when Cadence excused himself and the Professor, taking her to the side and keeping their conversation private. Woah, did he just take her by the hand? The Slytherin couldn't help but stare and let her mouth hang open as Cadence spoke to her in hushed romantic tones. Professor Roy the cradle robber! Before Davina thought it couldn't get any better, Cadence kissed her cheek... and that's when she flipped out.
The young serpent couldn't even tell if the Professor's reaction was meant to be that forceful, but now Cadence was nursing a broken hand and the Professor put distance between herself and them. Amusement and amazement emerged from Davina's expression as the Professor made her demands with an almost electric air around her, fueling a latent energy Davina had never seen from her. Davina could help but jump a little when the door slammed open loudly; she and her classmate were being kicked out. Daammmnnn, she was pissed. "You're an idiot," she responded to him, laughing but making her escape quickly. She grabbed his good hand and pulled him out of her Professor's reach and down the corridor. "Obviously, the Professor has crazier magic than you do, don't pretend like can take her out." She would be pissed about being stuck with him later, right now she just wanted to enjoy the hilarity and get him to the Hospital Wing. "It's not like the School Nurse can't heal that anyway, they've fixed worse."

He looked at Davina and then he shrugged.
Cadence: I have been called worse. And yes, I can be that from time to time but most of the time I am..
Oh no, he was not about to dive into his feelings with Davina.
Cadence: It does not matter. I did what I wanted and that's all that matters. Now I don't particularly care about passing that class but I need to, so let's just make a deal.
He was going to regret this.
Cadence: I will actually listen to you when you're tutoring me, because no matter how she sugar coated it, that's what she has you doing. It's going to be just as agonizing for me as it is for you so let's just agree to get it done and then we can both go back to doing something much more fun. Good by you?
He took his good hand from her.
Cadence: I mean come on it's a good deal considering the sooner I force my grades to improve the sooner you are off the hook as well.

Leading Cadence down the corridor towards the Hospital Wing, Davina let him ramble, defending himself. She was actually impressed that he insisted on doing whatever he wanted without apology, but she had to side on the Professor on this one; you don't just go around touching and kissing women without their consent. It was unwise, and he was lucky it was only his hand that was broken.
The humor from the situation faded when he again mentioned the situation they were in, and he tried to make the best of it. Well, there was no best of this. She was stuck tutoring him just when she had gotten some traction on her own research and was going to make concrete plans for her transformation. Of course, she had told no one of this and wasn't about to tell Cadence, of all people. Cadence forced his hand out of her grip and insisted that they just go by Professor Roy's punishment and be done with it and, in reality, she didn't see a way out of it at this point. Davina crossed her arms and studied the Gryffindor closely, wondering why he was sucking at Potions in the first place.
"I am on a very strict schedule for many reasons I have no intention of sharing with you," she started off, "So you will owl me your class schedule and I'll respond with all the dates and times you are to meet me to study." It was going to be tough, but she was about to spend a whole bunch of time with someone she had never bothered in knowing well. She had to compartmentalize her life around this stupid assignment if she was going to keep her sanity. It was possible that she could use her Class A status to get out of this, but she wasn't even sure how firm this title even was. The Headmaster seemed to have pulled it out of his rearside, along with its rules. If she was going to take advantage of that, she'd have to save it for something good. "Don't mess it up," she ended abruptly, turning around and leaving him in front of the Hospital Wing to go eat dinner.
