In the midst of everything that had happened over the past few weeks Cadence knew he needed to chill. His emotional overload at Dani's party was a sign if nothing else was. So tonight as the crisp air gently breezed through the towers, he sat outside. He had no earthly idea if cool breezes were good for the soul, but he hoped that they were good for patience because higher powers of any type knew he needed some.
He sat, legs crossed in his best attempt at an indian style position but it had been so long since Cadence had been a small kid that sitting like this would probably be a decision that he regretted in the morning and yet he still sat in such a position. This was the last night he'd have Milly too. He had made a promise to himself that sooner rather than later he was going to return the stolen house elf.

She knew of Cadence but he was always so different. Mostly an emo bag of cow poo but still he was her friend.
"Sorry I am late but I have been busy with worry."
Not about him but herself. She had a lot of changes.
"None the less here I am so stop being so emotional and give me a proper welcome."

Oh. Pat-A-Cake was here finally. Still Cadence listened and turned to her. What was he supposed to say? He did not quite know but he knew that he needed to articulate his words so that they came across as he intended for them to and not as false. The problem was he never knew how to do that, not as proper as much as he thought that he should have anyway.
Cadence: What does that even mean?
A proper welcome. Like a hug, flowers? A pull of the hair on her head.
Cadence: I thought you didn't do magic, what being muggle born and all.
They'd had their arguments but hell who did not in this day and age.

She shrugged.
"I don't but that does not mean I can not be here. I am going to need you to get out of this indian position that only a fetus should be in and let's go do something that's shyly exciting. I need to know my way around more this year anyway."
Her real intentions though were to find out who was cool to hang around.
"Whose cool to hang around this year?"
She blinked.
"Give up my welcome already and make it proper."

Cadence: Hang around? I do not really know. You know how I am around too many people.
He was glad that she had not seen his break down. Truthfully he did not know if he could come face to face with her after that.
Cadence: Maybe this one girl whose house elf I stole, or this one girl that's supposed to be tutoring me for potions. One's a ravenclaw and the other's a slytherin though.
He let out a small sigh of relief. Then she brought up her proper welcome.
Cadence: Okay,
honestly the reluctant sound in his voice should have been enough to let her know that he did not want to do it.
Cadence: Close your eyes at least first.

Patricia looked at him and she shook her head no.
"Fraid mum taught me better than that."
She then looked at that house elf.
I want that thing for keeps. You should leave it here with me. Whomever it belongs to probably forgot you have it anyway."

Cadence slightly raised an eyebrow. He did not want to keep the house elf from Dani, especially since the rumor was that after he'd left, she had thrown a fit of her own at her brother. Family drama, something Cadence knew about all too well.
Cadence: I really should get it back to the girl. Maybe next time though.
He was trying so hard to be good but with Patricia around he had a feeling it was going to be harder than he first thought.

She stared at him and then smacked him right upside his head.
"What in the heck happened to you?"
It was almost like she was bitter that he was choosing to be like this. This was weak and Patricia did not hang around anyone weak. She wanted to stomp on his hand and make it hurt.
"Whatever it is, get over it. We're here to make your father and my mother proud. I am not doing that along while you just sit back and think that you are going to ride on my robes. Shape up Mr. Strife, I will not do this alone."

He held up his right hand.
Cadence: Aye, aye captain...
He put his right hand out.
Cadence: This is the real reason that I am out here tonight, turning the elf back over to it's rightful owner aside. They are not leaving. I already feel different, but it's not a path that I want to take Pat. I knew I was changing the moment the tears flowed at that party. If only Olive knew what she shook up inside of me.
Oh! that was it.
Cadence: That's someone cool to hang around, Olive Greene

"Good."
Seriously she was going to have to drown him in the lake to get him to man up wasn't she. Wait, Olive Greene?
"I will get right on that. Go return that elf, I'll go see if I can find Olive and we will meet back up some time later and hopefully between then and now you won't hit on anymore teachers. I mean my god, could you be anymore dense when it comes to women."
She secretly thought Cadence was into guys. There was nothing wrong with that and she had been hitting on him for years and got nowhere. She knew she was at least a four and nothing so close as a glance in a non-friendship way. She finally reached over and hugged him since he insisted on being an emo bag of poo still. She sighed because a small part of her did not want to let go but she knew that she had to. She looked at him as she pulled out of the hug. It was worth one more shot right? She closed her eyes.
"Okay, welcome me now, it's getting late."

WHAT IN THE HELL DID THAT MEAN?
It took him a minute to get over her and the hug. He did not really know what to do, for he had only been kidding about her closing her eyes and now she had them closed. He stared at her for a minute. Then he simply shook her hand.
Cadence: Welcome back Pat. I mean I had my doubts at first but they are all cleared now.

Her friend was indeed into boys. She looked at him with a look that said she had stupidly cared for him a lot but now she knew better.
"Thank you,"
she said as she got up. Back to being shy for her it was.
End.
