Turning the page back to the previous one, Davina glanced at the paragraph she had already read three times. The words were beginning to look like nonsense and she sat back, rubbing her eyes. She had already been there for two hours and her arse was beginning to feel numb. The first hour had gone quickly while she completed her Potions homework, and now another had passed by while she researched her not-so-official project. Since her first year at Hogwarts, she had automatically been in love with the idea, and Davina didn't love a lot of things. Hogwarts thought she was too young for something like this, but she'd heard that students her age have done it before. The thought alone made her ambition grow without moderation.
She had been making inconsistent progress since the end of last year, but she was starting to feel impatient. Every time she went home for the summer, she was taken away from her resources, so she had to figure it out soon before she was stuck in the muggle world for the summer holiday again. Trying to remember a particular rune she had seen before, the Slytherin trained her mind to remember which book she had encountered it. Standing up and climbing the table, she squinted and stretched her neck up, skimming the titles in hopes of remembering which one it was. The Transfiguration section of the Library was her other home, but the sheer volume of references made her have to search one by one. Crossing her arms and looking through titles a few rows higher than her head, her foot started tapping the table softly, keeping her impatience at bay.

The day had gone relatively well off for Dale, in Potions they were all assigned to write three scrolls worth full on the properties of Mug wort and its uses. Then in History of Magic, they were to write an essay explaining the reasons the Goblin wars failed. And lastly, a 'back to the basics' lesson in Transfiguration. Where everyone was required to review, and prepare for an upcoming examination. What this really meant to Dale was that nearly everyone in his year would be busy, too busy to cause trouble.. but most importantly-- too busy to cause noise. He chose his favorite location, the library, to relax in and opened up his transfiguration textbook. Prepared to spend a blissful evening reading about the Gamps law, and theory of transfiguration.
Unfortunately for him, an incredibly LOUD and OBNOXIOUS tapping came from just the other table. He had tried to ignore it, he had also tried to block it out, but now as he sat at his desk, ears clamped tightly over his ears, he knew there was no way.. no way he could ignore that sound.
"ENOUGH" he shouted, almost a little too loud, his eyes were now glaring daggers from one desk over. He slid his chair back rather noisily and marched up to the girl on the table and glowered up at her.
do you realize where you are" he scolded her in a hushed tone. "this is a library for petes sake! What kind of animal makes that much noise?" he shouted in his hushed whispered tone, though it was quite possibly, if not louder than speaking in a normal tone of voice, not that Dale would have noticed.

None of the titles Davina saw rang a bell, but she wasn't going to stop looking while she still had so much time in the day. If she found it within the next half hour, she might be able to found her rune before dinner time. Above all, Davina didn't skip meals. Taking a deep breath, Davina had to roll her neck to keep it from getting stiff for being in an awkward position. She would have to find a spell to fix that later, she was starting to have that happen more often than before.
Davina was almost at the end of of one shelf when she heard the desperate plead of a familiar nerd. Returning his glare, she put her hands on her hips. "No one cares, Roberts," she responded with irritation in her normal voice, which ended up being quieter than Dale's attempt to whisper. "It's a library, not a cemetery." The kid was delusional; she hadn't even been making any noise, and she was only on the table to get a better look. It was annoying to charm books she didn't need to her table and then having to put them back. Either way, the Ravenclaw was constantly in people's business, pointing out what rules they were breaking and getting points docked off their Houses. Davina would have a serious problem with him if Slytherin lost points because of him. "Go back to your little nerd hole."

Just A------- wot?! his mouth dropped at the absurdity of it all. Did he just hear right?? This--- THIS girl, thought it was 'just a library'. He began to laugh, like he always did when he was on the very of a break down.
"Just a library..." he repeated through clenched his teeth, "Yes. That's right. And a library has rules. And THAT" he indicated, outstretching a finger to point at her feet that yes, were still tapping loudly and violently "Is the very definition of what NOT to do in a library"
Dale huffed. What was with the students these days? So up in arms and defiant, trying to effectively eradicate the very definition of a society. Standing on tables he could live with.... but the stomping of her feet was just pushing it. He wanted nothing more at this point than to saw off her feet and leave them hanging from the ceilings as a message to all other wrongdoers, that no... you may NOT tap your ridiculously fat foot against ANY surface in the room..... failure to abide would result in the impromptu removal of such sources. Yeah. That's what Hogwarts needs. He thought about these things from time to time, it felt perfectly normal although he never voice it out loud. But one day.. one day it'll happen and it'll be glorious~!
"if--- by nerd hole, you mean the Ravenclaw Common room then you're mistaken that I would have to crawl back, considering how we're located up high in the towers and not, like your kind, in the dungeons." he added snarkily in a matter o'fact kind of way.

As usual, the paranoid Ravenclaw was taking things waaayyy to seriously. Sure there were rules in the library, but they were mostly guidelines, weren't they? The library was meant to be a sanctuary for academics, but complete silence was just irrational. Either way, he had pointed at her lovely and feminine feet, which made her stop tapping. She didn't even realize she had been doing so in the first place. Of course it had to be something he had noticed and ignited the crazy-person neurons in his brain.
Shifting her weight to her opposite foot, she began tapping her foot as she had, as if she were keeping time. There wasn't any point to make it any louder since it already irritated him, plus she didn't need to catch anyone else's attention. Davina could only roll her eyes while Dale picked apart her stay men for semantics... and totally got it wrong. She hadn't even said anything about crawling, but she couldn't expect anything else from someone who had a mental illness. No, that wasn't going to work. "Tell you what," she suggested, sounding friendly, "I can Charm your hearing away, and you shan't be disturbed by anything at all!" Of course, there was a Charm that would silence the soles of her shoes, but where was the fun in that?
Dropping her pretense, she pointed away from her library section. "Or you can just leave."

Dales hands slowly curled into fists, they shook almost slightly at the amount of pressure he was applying to his fists to keep from losing it as the tapping commenced. They were like nails to a chalkboard, and each tap caused him to squeeze tighter and tighter so that his nails had now caused a dent into his palms. this bitch... Like he was going to let her win and have the library to herself. No matter the irritation he faced he decided to stay. Never give up... never surrender. If she wanted to play this game, he could play it. He was game.
"No, I think I'll stay" he added defiantly.
He pulled out a chair at the table she was standing at and plopped down rather noisily. He shifted back enough to have enough space to stretch his legs out and plopped them onto the table, his feet knocking into Davina's in the process and he looked at her smugly, to suggest that two could play at this game.
"oops" he added rather un-apologetically "my bad"

There was barely a whisper, a tumbleweed blowing through the aerial oaken aisles where sleepy feline’s napped between aged cafe au lait dissertations about vampire saliva and the medicinal use of mermaid bladders. On days like these you could hear the click-clacking against cold stonework floors from a mile away. Beside a window overlooking the courtyard she perched, breezy and composed, feet arched from her chair over and on top of the table (unbeknownst to the librarian), she sat. About a foot away from her face as glassy dark eyes scanned the tea stained pages of the book she was reading; 'Wizardry in Film', a topic that had been covered in her muggle studies course earlier that week. On the table before her sat several sizable stacks of books with a similar common theme, several crumpled pieces of parchment, and two flamboyant orange quills and one sugar quill.
This silence stretched on for some time. Several hours, at least, where Daniyah had toiled away on her essay only to come to the conclusion that all progress had long since been stilled, parallel to her focus. One would think that an essay on muggles from a muggle-born witch would be a breeze, but Dani was of... unusual circumstances, adopted by two witches at the ripe age of four. Slamming the book shut she let out a deeply drawn out sigh, the legs of her chair dropping to the ground with a dulled clout. It was only then did voices reach her fatigued ears, to which she responded without hesitation. - "Are you two having a lover's quarrel?" Her unrestrained query came from just around the corner of a sizable bookcase, paired with a grin and a disquisitive gleam to her wide dark eyes. She stood poised at the end of the aisle, her arms wrapped around the several books she had collected over the course of her study session. "She is rather pretty Dale, I can't blame you in the least. Remember, if you lose your temper in battle, you will surely lose the war."
Taking several steps forward she let the contents of her arms spill out onto the table and she slid out a chair, paying no mind to the shrill screech on the floor. "Since we're all so cozy now, I might as well join you. I do love a good get together. All that's missing is some tea, but I don't think the librarian would approve and I do hate seeing her upset. Perhaps if I were to get some and share... Ah, I wonder if she prefers black tea or herbal," she mused while twirling the end of her sugar quill in her mouth, without so much as waiting for the others to respond.

Lifting her chin up in Dale's own warped sense of rebellion, Davina's eyebrow twitches slightly. So the Eagle thought he was tough, huh? She quickly sidestepped his attempt to knock his own feet into hers, and crossed her arms. The various choices for a incendiary comebacks were swirling in Davina's mind, but her response was interrupted by the arrival of yet another Eagle, eager to put her two knuts in. Seriously? Davina could only roll her eyes at the girl's implication that they were having a lover's spat. Of all the people in the castle that this Slytherin might be interested, Dale Roberts was nowhere near the list.
"That... is quite enough," Davina gritted through her teeth after a moment to let the insanity settle in. "I was actually studying, which is the purpose of this particular library. I as actually making some progress," she started pacing back and forth on the table, determined to say her piece before any more Ravenclaws decided to show up. She was starting to lose patience, and she usually had plenty to go around to keep the occasional idiot that tried to ruin her day. "But then this one," she pointed to Dale, "decided to throw a kneazle's fit and now he's trying to look up my skirt," she pressed the folds of her uniform against her legs to close the gap, glaring at the first trespasser. Then she turned to Daniyah, and pointed at her as well. "And now you want to have tea!?"
Realizing that her voice was getting to the point where the librarian would be bothered enough to shush him, she took a moment to compose herself. "All you are doing is creating more havoc in the middle of the bloody library. This is the opposite of what any of you want, isn't it?!"

LOVERS QUARREL? Hah. This girl was nuts if she thought this was love. This was war baby, plain and simple. Though he didn't bother voicing it aloud. He knew enough of his housemate to know that she was the lovey hippie type. Dale would often come downstairs to catch her in strange positions, sometimes balancing from her head, other times crouching with arms outstretched. She called it Yoga, he called it insanity. But now he welcomed her presence, he could tell based on this slytherbtiches face that she wasn't glad to have an extra annoyance in the room. Good, serves her right, he thought rather smugly "Yes... Tea would be lovely" he stated rather uncharacteristically. But then Davina broke down and tried to chew them out. Blaming him.. HIM for the reason of disturbance. He almost laughed but he gave her the benefit of this little self righteous speech she was trying to pull. But the last straw had been the insinuation that he was looking up her skirt. Well.. it was only partly true. He couldn't deny that he did in fact, have quite a plain eyes view up her skirt from this angle, pink, but that wasn't his intention. It just happened. Besides, they were the kind of boring ordinary types that some girls wore who didn't care about anything. Davina was no different, as plainly as he could see, she had no care for the law nor cared for a fellow students well being. He gritted his teeth and growled "Yeah its not called trying when you've practically got it all up in my face. Why don't you just take off your skirt if you wanted me to see so bad?"

The salt was palpable but it bothered Daniyah little. She was very much the kill them with kindness type and her own unwavering tenacity caused whatever acerbity to rebuff. Instead, she simply sat there with the sweetest of smirks, head pendulumning between the eagle and the snake, like some sick game of Darwinism as the two fired off at one another. Rather than becoming entangled in pointless semantics, however, she nodded towards Dale and pulled her messenger bag up onto her lap and dug around inside for several seconds as she pulled out a set of teacups with a butterfly print flittering about on the sides and two mason jars of looseleaf.
"Well, if it's streaking or tea, I am game for both," she said before raising her wand. "Aguamenti." A stream of water shot out from the end of her wand and into the cup. "You know, tea can lower your cortisol levels, which honestly I think could be very beneficial in this type of situation. I think the both of you are suffering from some serious chakra blockages," she mused, moving onto the next cup and repeating the spell. "Personally, I recommend this mix of rosemary and peppermint... And no, I never mind a bit of havoc to be perfectly honest. It's all rather interesting. Do you take sugar?"

Post by Caoimhe Uisce on Mar 8, 2016 1:24:09 GMT -5
The library was fairly sparse for a Thursday evening. A distinct chill ran through the castle--or maybe it was just Caoimhe’s imagination--and the albino librarian shivered, tugging down the sleeves of her grey turtleneck sweater as gooseflesh rippled across her forearms. Luckily enough, she’d remembered to wear her knitted fingerless gloves that day, and so she was able to stave off at least some of the evening dampness while she worked.
The merrow was in the middle of returning misplaced books back to their rightful homes when a particularly loud outburst of voices caught her attention. She paused suddenly in her task, her whiter-than-white head tilting to the side slowly; a particularly dusty tome detailing the differences between different fungi hovered poised in mid-air as she listened to the commotion unfolding a few rows over. Two students appeared to be arguing over the quietness of libraries while one student--whose voice sounded rather familiar--suggested that they all get cozy and enjoy a spot of tea together.
Now, Caoimhe was not the sort of librarian to chide her charges over indulging in a little tea party--that is, of course, unless they forgot to invite her. Without further hesitation, the spunky little merrow shelved the book of mushrooms, wheeled her cart of books out of the way, and traipsed along the towering stacks of books until she found the source of the heated chatter.
“I am to be thinking,” she mused upon arrival, “we should be using a picnic blanket to be covering the table, yes? For making the spills easy to clean, yes?”

Oh how suddenly had the tables turned on her. Davina had been having a productive afternoon all on her own, and now two... wait, three of her schoolmates were derailing her research. How was she ever going to get anything done when there were hundreds of others just like them!?
Inhaling slowly in an attempt to relax, she eventually exhaled a sharp laughed before covering her mouth. She didn't care if she was laughing at Caoimhe to her face, but she hadn't meant to do it so loudly. It wasn't the Gryffindor's fault she spoke so differently, and it didn't bother Davina either, it just so happened that she joined this fiasco just when Davina thought it couldn't get any more ridiculous. Clearing her throat, Davina decided she needed to reign everyone in already. "Ok, listen. All I need is a book looking for the one rune I'm missing, and then you can have your tea party," she explained, trying to impose some rational thought. Turning towards the opposite shelf, she made an open gesture with her hands, trying to negotiate with a bunch of lunatics. Her next line of reason got stuck in her throat when she looked up and spotted exactly what she was looking for. "Oh!"
Davina quickly whipped out her wand and enchanted her prize down from the shelf, hugging it like a long lost friend. "Ok, ok... I have time for one cup of tea," she said opening her book and quickly looking for her rune. "But you," she pointed at Dale, "quit being a pervert." Jumping down from the table, she took her seat again to proceed with her research, with impromptu tea party or not.

Dale tended to tune out Daniyah most of the time when she spoke, because it always sounded like nonsense blabbering, nothing ever made sense to him. But he'd already grown accustomed to differentiating when she asked questions and when she was just blabbering, so when she asked if he took sugar he politely replied
"Yes please, I'll take two cubes" he answered, equally polite, though as he answered his eyes stared daggers at Davina.
He had hardly noticed when the librarian student whatever she called herself walked over, but as always she was a hard site to miss. If it weren't for her stark white hair, there was also the odd way she spoke.
"Yes! Lets bring the picnic blanket out" he said almost too enthusiastically. Wanting nothing more than to torture Davina for the awful racket she made with that foot tapping. The nerving noise that still pounded through his skull even if she was no longer tapping. He nearly laughed when she tried to usher them to help, as if... but when she found what she was looking for it soured the mood and he growled as she took a seat,
"I WILL NOT!" he shouted defiantly, slamming a fist loudly onto the table as he did so and then turned his attention to his housemate "Make that FOUR sugars" he was feeling reckless, at least in a way that he felt was being reckless.

Daniyah winced, visibly startled by Dale's sudden blow to the poor (surely antique) table. In all honesty there wasn't a whole lot that she knew about her housemate. He was argumentative at times, cantankerous on his best days, but Daniyah was not the type to ever write anyone off. Surely their points of view differed vastly with his being clearly authoritative and Dani's wildly imaginative, but she respected him all the same. She wasn't however, fond of any sort of violence- towards inanimate objects or not. She frowned sidelong but it was an expression sojourned, swiftly recouped by one of amusement.
"Oh Caiomhe! I am so glad you can join us! Please, sit down. Make yourself comfortable. Your hair is looking fantastic today, if you didn't know... Ah, but I'm afraid I do not have a blanket handy. How unfortunate," she said rather hurriedly, jumping up to offer her own chair to the lion. Assuming the role of entertainer she turned her attention to Davina as she plopped a few cubes of sugar (which she had also fished from her bag) into the first cup of tea and slid it across the table to Dale in hopes it would calm his encroaching mood.
"What are you researching, might I ask? Those are some fairly advanced ruins," she inquired, beginning to fill up the next cup as her eyes peeled over the books page.

Now that Davina had found the object of her interest, regardless of the unwanted company, she had no problem ignoring everyone else as best as they could. Noise and regular chatter in the library didn't bother her as it did with Dale; she was accustomed to having background noise. In some instances, too much silence was a bit unsettling, and even distracting. To that end, it was even a little satisfying that a little bit of controlled disruption was going to give the other Ravenclaw a bit of a twitch.
Trying to ignore the scent of temptation in Daniyah's tea, Davina systematically skimmed every page, convinced this was the one she was looking for. The subject matter was familiar, of course, but the author's approach tickled the Slytherin's memory; she was positive this was where she had seen this particular rune the first time. After about a dozen pages, she realized they were talking to her again. Well, this was none of their business. It was important to her and she didn't need help, judgments, encouragement or anything in between. After only a moment to think of her response, her brown eyes left the page she was skimming for the smallest moment to glance at Daniyah before she answered vaguely. "Transfiguration."
