As he sat down, he found out that apparently the Slytherin had expected him to get them stuff as well. Really? The kid wanted him to balance three cups of hot water back to their table. He could see why the other Gryffindor had made a comment warning him not only about Slytherins but about Lachlan specifically. Apparently the only pretty thing about him was his face.
“Oh, so sorry,” he said smiling, “I forgot I was your mother.”
Standing up he grabbed his bag and book in one hand and his tea in the other and walked away. As he turned back to the rest of the room he realizing that the sleeping girl had left, or at least wasn’t at her seat, leaving the attractive asian kid all on his lonesome. Placing his bag on the ground next to the kid, he put his book and his now steeped tea on the kid’s table.
“My name’s Tobias. Not Toby,” he said the first part to the guy in front of him while smiling, but the toby part was spit at Lachlan, turning back to the Ravenclaw he smiled again, "Okay if I sit here?”
He gestured to the chair, he’d already put his stuff down but might as well ask.

Penny was right then returning to her seat, loaded up with cup and saucer and pot of tea, since she sincerely doubted Jasper would share his and she didn't want to push him too far, considering she was already planning on copying his notes.
"Shove love," she told the newcomer.

It wasn't necessarily surprising, but laughable, that so much could happen throughout the beginnings of this class, and yet absolutely nothing happened at all. Initially, Jasper followed along with the conversation between the estranged student and everyone who threw themselves at him. A brunette, a swede, and identical siblings walk into a bar: Do Nothing. It wasn't a very good joke, and nothing they said was all that interesting. The only time Jasper showed he was aware of his surroundings was when he pulled his binder closer to him, away from Penny's possibly filthy hands (who knew what she did with those things? She seemed the finger-sucker type).
Finally, the "mysterious" student rose from the group, revealed himself, and Jasper still did not bat an eye. It was a simple relief for him to finally be able to get on with the lesson, his teacup half empty from the occasional sip. Yes, yes, Them Asians Sure Looked Young. He got it. He understood. Being purely Korean himself (pure, pure, pure, would his father have it any other way), he was very used to this whole shtick. Granted, he simply had his suspicions. After all, who simply shows up to class without an emblem on his robes?
But Jasper's fingernails were looking rather perfectly kept now, and he focused his attention on his tea instead.
“My name’s Tobias. Not Toby,”
"Jasper Kim, pleasure to make your acquaintance," He replied instinctively, but his gaze did not lift, he made no other attempt to acknowledge him. He was used to people joining him, and he was bred to keep formalities stuck to his tongue at all times. He took a sip before holding his chin up with his fist and thumb, leaning on his elbow in disinterest.
"Okay if I sit here?”
"Shove love,"
Jasper ignored Penny, as she was simply just a rude, ugly child, and would react as such, as rude, ugly children were wont to do. Jasper gestured at the seat before him casually, "Yes, the more the merrier. I'm sure Lloyd here would appreciate it," He began, eyes narrowing at the younger Ravenclaw, "But don't bring the party over here, thank you. I'd like to remain a neutral zone from petty grievances."

Instead of the cute guy answering, the short blonde girl was back, and being rude. He laughed at her comment. Planting himself very comfortably where he stood, his hand slipped to the wand in his pocket. He smirked at her.
“Make me, sweetie.” he replied.
He was fine with girls, it was just asses he couldn’t stand. And one look at this girl and you could tell how little she cared about anything. He could feel the delinquency dripping off of her. After what had happened with the professor he was itching for a fight. His hand was twitching on his wand. He didn’t care how little the excuse was. He only need a reason. He didn’t care how good it was. Just one wrong word, one attempted shove, and he’d blast her back into the table of hot water behind her.
The the cute boy started to talk, Jasper apparently, and Tobias calmed down a bit. Well, he was no longer about to curse the girl into boiling water. So that was good. For her.
"I'm drama free," he said, winking at Jasper as he sat down, "Promise."
Looking up at the girl now, his hand still holding the wand in his pocket, he smiled.
"Truce?" he asked, offering his left hand to her instead.
Jasper didn't seem to be interested in shaking hands, anyway. What was with the people here?

Penny wasn't dumb, no matter what some people thought, and Jasper must have figured at least that much out since he didn't bother to tell her off, just narrowed his eyes in the universal body language for "don't cause trouble." She better be getting something good out of this.
"Sure, truce," she took the other guy's hand.
Left hand; she supposed that was why he'd gotten into Gryffindor. Smart enough to shake hands with her but too chivalrous or whatever it was to break his word good and proper. As Penny's word was flimsier than the sodden tea leaves they were reading today, she hardly cared.

Jasper was sitting at a table of filthy liars, and while he supposed he couldn't judge, it was bothersome that they took this foolishness to him. He wanted to drink his tea, read someone their leaves, and then go about his merry way with an "O" in his record and as little bloodshed as possible. He noted that the Gryffindor kept his hand in his pocket, first off, and that Lloyd had a bad taste in existing, so both of them lacked any sort of trustworthy air.
His own wand was edged from the ring of his binder, the hilt poking out ever so slightly. He doubted any sort of aggression would be directed at him; he was innocently drinking his tea, keeping to himself, making pleasant small talk. And he was unsure what was putting the new student so on edge. Lachlan, maybe? Surely a child did not give him the fidgets. But, if something went wrong after he explicitly stated he wants no part of it, maybe he would slice a couple of throats and call it a day. Then again, staying out of it and enjoying his tea sounded so much better, and he would simply have to consider the moment at hand when it happened.
He took another sip of his tea and watched their phony display, given to him to appease his shitty disposition, or perhaps to mock him. Either way, he wasn't impressed.
"Well, isn't that lovely," He feigned a grin, though it could look the same as any other, "I'm glad some people here can maintain civility through these trying circumstances. Sharing a cup of tea is grounds for a deathly duel in certain, divinative traditions, I presume?" The tense air around them was absolutely irrational, especially since Jasper couldn't even see what made everyone so shitty toward each other; from what he heard, they were just being strangely, passively hostile. But his quip aside, it wasn't actually directed at Tobias. It was directed at everyone in earshot, because they were all pathetically high strung, not just him.
But Jasper just kept drinking his tea. That was none of his business.

When Tobias had heard the chivalry was part of the Gryffindor traits list he’d laughed. Chivalry wasn't in his nature. The entire point of setting up a truce was simply so he won’t hex her. Presently. The hand shake was simply to see if she would, and shaking with his left hand, his right in his pocket was extremely rude and he knew it but didn’t care. Well, he could just ignore the girl from now one. Looking over he noticed Jasper had his wand out already, lying on his bind, clever. Definitely someone he’d want on his side if it came to a fight, and definitely not someone he wanted to cross.
As Jasper tried to diffuse the situation, Tobias started drinking his tea. It wasn’t his fault that other people were being absolutely ridiculously rude. Including the teacher. Especially the teacher. Going back to glaring at him, he drank he tea in passive aggressive silence, for now. His hand out of his pocket, and no longer gripping his wand. What sick pleasure did that man get in making him look like a fool? To be fair, he did that himself often enough that he should be used to it. However Tobias was far to prideful to get be used to being made a fool out off. Continuing to glare at the teacher, as he took sips of his tea, he tried to figure out the perfect circumstances in which he could hex him without getting caught.
