"The power of three's from a TV show," Lucia said wryly.
Lachlan stopped looking so puzzled as he realised how the other boy had been confused.
"Oh, yeah," he put in. "Triplet joke. I don' think Ed can See. He's weird enough without that."

Mirai shrugged. “It’s a rare ability to be sure,” he said. Looking over at the girl who’d been speaking to him earlier, he spoke up a little louder this time. “Elana, right?” he said, “Why are you taking the class?”He tried to sound noncommittal as he spoke, and he did a fairly good job of it. Considering his life noncommittal was one of the few things he was actually good at.

Tobias didn't care about divination in the slightest. However he could use a distraction and an easy class. Palmistry was a great way to touch a person's hand, and get basic information like birthdays and if they were dating. Not only that but no one had seen the new professor, and he was always curious.
Arriving late to class he noticed the professor hadn’t arrived yet, either. Lucky! Next was the question of where to sit. There was a very attractive Korean? guy sitting at one of the seat. He looked korean, but Tobias was absolute shit at telling where people were from. He’s from somewhere in Asia. Probably. Whatever he assumed it would probably be politically incorrect but whatever. Unfortunatly, there was a younger girl napping at that table and the guy look throughly involved in being productive.
His eyes wandered to the back of the room where he saw two tens talking to each other. Damn, they were attractive. One look slightly older, probably a seventh year, of some ethnicity from East Asia. Tobias wasn’t going to try and guess farther than that. The other student he thought he recognized as someone from his year: Lachlan Strangways… He’d noticed him at breakfast and had asked another Gryffindor who he was. The blue eyes was why he remember, he really did had a thing for blue eyes.
Completely ignoring the girl at the table, he sat down next to the seventh year.
“My name’s Tobias Åstrōm. You’re Lachlan, right?” he said to the sixth year, biting his lower lip after asking the question.

Two new kids? But the newest arrival had been sorted and was wearing Gryffindor robes. Lachlan pursed his lips as he shot a look toward Lucia; she just smiled and tried to look innocent. Which, he supposed she was, for once.
"Tobias, hi," he said, dropping the accent because, well it was put on in the first place. "Can we call you Toby?"
Like the kid from Labyrinth and looks like him, too.
"So, you got sorted, when? This morning?"
He turned very slowly back to Kei, partly because even Lachlan wasn't immune to the pleasure that came from being the centre of attention, but mostly because he just wanted to make the other boy squirm. But he didn't say anything, just smiled. If there was one thing Lachlan liked, it was anticipation.

He laughed at the idea. His brother was the only one who called him that. And only after they’d watched Labyrinth together with his father. The man had an odd obsessed with David Bowie, especially considering the guy died before he was born. To be fair the guy was a looker though.
“Only if I get to be kidnapped by David Bowie,” he replied, winking, “Though I’d settle for being kidnapped by you. As to when I was sorted, that would be last night. Though I may have tried to convince the hat to have placed me in Slytherin if I knew how attractive the house members are."
As Lachlan turned to the other student, Tobias did as well. Smiling, he held his hand out to the assumed seventh year to shake, palm tilted slightly up.
“I don’t believe I know you’re name” he said, with a half-smile.

Mirai hadn’t noticed the Aryan kid until he’d sat down at their table, and then he had to try very hard not to notice him. Why had two extremely attractive students decided to sit at his table. Why couldn’t this have happened when he was still a student… No, bad professor. Read your book. And he tried, he really did try. However as soon as the kid sat down he’d started flirting with Lachlan. Had he walked into a porno. The image of the two of them making out on the table flashed into his mind before he could stomp on his own foot to stop it.
He had issues. That fact was indisputable now. This was not how he’d expected pretending to be a student would go. As he tried to focus on the student’s words he found out the boy’s name was Tobias, and he’d transferred here as well. Well that made his own story of being a transfer that much less believable. Luckily they seem content talking to each. No sooner had the thought crossed his mind that they both turned to smile at him in unison. Tobias offering his hand as he obviously flirted. I’m like five years older than you!
“Kei” he replied, not taking the student's hand.

He was a bit disappointed but he covered it well, taking his hand back, and smiling instead.
“So, why are you taking the course?” he asked.
It seemed like the best line of conversation really. They were sitting in a divinations course and this kid was a seventh year. No way he was taking it for shits and giggles.
“Oh, are you actually a seer?” he said grinning ear to ear, “Cause that would be so cool!”
He watch Kei, trying to read his reactions and coming up blank.
“I know!” he said, holding out his other hand this time, “Read my palm.”

Mirai didn’t know what to do with this kid. As soon as he pulled his hand back the kid had asked why he was taking the course. How was he supposed to answer that… Before he could even start to think of an answer however the kid asked if he was a seer, and said that would be cool. Cool? Cool was not the half of it.
When he was about to say he was just taking it for the extra O.W.L. Tobias had placed his hand out on the table in front of him, asking him to read his palm. What was this kid on? To be fair, Mirai had a habit of acting the same way when he got excited about something. He weighed his options. He could turn the kid down, and be harassed by even more questions. Or he could actually read the kids palm, giving him half a chance to shut him up. Even if for a second.
“Okay fine,” he said, taking the kid’s hand, “But you have to be quiet so that I can focus.”

Tobias nodded quickly, drawing his dominant hand over his lips like he was sealing them. Smiling at having his hand held by the student who rejected touching him at first. He couldn’t help it, it was in his nature to be pushy especially if rejected.
It never occurred to him that Kei might actually read him correctly.

Mirai looked at the kid’s palm, deciding to stick to a basic reading, no need to try and open his third eye on this.
“Your life line is here,” he said, tracing his finger along it, “As a short but deep line it means you are easily influenced and controlled. The chains in this line starting here show you are susceptible to emotional or health problems.”
He moved his hand now, to trace the student’s heart line, chuckling as he did so. This kid wasn’t going to have an easy time of it.
“This is your heart line. The fact that it’s so long means that there’s a high possibility of co-dependency or promicusity now or later in your life.”
But not with you, he reminded himself. No mater who Tobias is, he would he having a rough enough time of it if his palms were any judge. No need to add to it.
“The waves in the line also support the idea of you having many relationships, or a lack of serious ones. The color red and deep means that you tend to be temperamental.”
The more he read on Tobias, the less he wanted too. The student may have asked for a reading but he hadn’t asked to have his entire personality bared in front of everyone. The temperamental coloring of the heart line could mean the student was either easy going or high strung, and after the pressure he’d put on Mirai to read his palm. The professor would place a lot of money on high strung. Letting go of the students hand he tried to smile nonchalantly.
“At least, that’s what a diviner would say.”

Lachlan wasn't completely convinced about the whole sorting thing. Murphy might be insane lately, but two different sortings for transfers? That was just implausible. Still, he told himself he didn't care what Kei's deal was as he lifted his bag from the floor.
"Well, looks like the teacher's not coming," he said. "Maybe they're ill or something. Would certainly explain why they weren't at supper."
He didn't wait to see if anyone else would follow. In situations like this, it usually required just one person to get the rest of the class moving.

When Lachlan finally got up to leave he decided it was time to start class. He'd learned quite a bit, that he really shouldn’t have tried this experiment, that the students were way to attractive for a normal school, that he probably needed muggle therapy.
“So as it seems a number of you are too smart for me,” He said standing up and walking towards the front of the class, “And only a handful of you shouldn’t be taking this class."
He tapped the sleeping girl on the back of her head when he pasted, looking at her as he talked about students who shouldn’t be taking this class.
“As some of you already know, Divinations is not an ability you can learn. You either have it or you don’t, and while I will hold nothing against you if you cannot properly see the future. I will if you try to fake your way through my class. And believe me, I will know."
“That said, enough of this class will be simply memorizing what different things mean, so you will be able to pass without the sight. However, the more open your third eye is the better you will do. We will work on opening that third eye more for those who are interested."
He looked at each of the students in turn before continuing.
“My name is Mirai Kei. There is no need to call me professor or sir, Kei will do. And yes,” he continued because he knew it would come up, “I am a seer, and no, I do not know every intimate detail of the future or all of your deep dark secrets.”
His eyes caught on Tobias as he spoke, "Unless, I read your palm, then I might.”
“This here,” he said gesturing to the tabby who was no longer pretending to be asleep and watching class carefully, “is Mr. Paws, and she sees more than most.”
He left it at that: maybe his cat was a seer too, definitely not, but it was good to keep them guessing.
“As some of you have already noticed there is tea, hot water and mugs up front. If you couldn’t tell, we will be doing tea leave reading today. If you haven’t already, please come to the front and get started.”
At that he leaned against his desk, watching the class.

Penny jolted upright at the tap on the back of her head. She totally needed to perfect the art of sleeping with her eyes open. Or maybe there was a charm for that? Aurors probably needed to learn it.
The dude from the back of the class was walking to the front, talking like he was in charge. Ooooooh, so he was the professor and he'd been tricking them. Penny rolled her eyes. Next thing he'd be trying to sound hip and cool like the young folk.
She looked at Jasper. No help there.
With a sigh, as though getting up was the biggest inconvenience in the world, Penny made her way to the front of the room.

As Kei read his life line, Tobias started tensing up. Who did this guy think he was? Easily influenced and controlled, my ass. He was in no way susceptible to health problems. He never got sick! And his emotions were fine. The the guy had the nerve to laugh as he moved his hand down one of the lines on his palm. The guy did have nice hands, like really nice and smooth, but he was talking again. Well, the promiscuity part he couldn’t disagree with, but he had never, and would never stoop to dependency on another person.
As Kei continued talking, Tobias started moving his other hand to his wand. One more thing, just say one more thing.
“The color red and deep means that you tend to be temperamental.”
Temperamental? Yeah, he could be temperamental and this kid was just about to find out how much. As Kei let go of his hand and smiled, Tobias pointed his wand at him under the table. The question was what would be the right spell…
Lachlan rising from his chair stopped his musing. Apparently, he’d decided the teacher wasn’t coming and that leaving would be the best option. Whatever, he was about to hex this kid. Then the kid stood up too, talking loud enough that the entire class started to listen. Whatever his back was facing him. He was talking about Divinations for whatever reason. Wait, wasn’t this divinations class… Then Kei introduced himself as Mirai Kei, their new divinations professor. And apparently he was a seer. And apparently, he’d only know their deep dark secrets if he read their palms.
This guy really didn’t understand that he had a wand trained on him did he. But, then again, he was a professor. Sighing deeply Tobias put his wand away, still glaring at the man. He’d been kicked out of one school already and hexing a professor in front of a group full of witnesses probably wasn’t the best of ideas.
Instead he did as instructed, walking to the front and taking a bright blue tea cup and some Darjeeling tea. Refusing to even look at the “professor” as he did so. Walking back to his table he pulled out his book as his tea steeped.

As Lachlan had kind of guessed, Kei wasn't what he seemed. Unfortunately, that meant Lachlan wasn't getting out of divination, but what could you do? He sat back down and listened to Kei go on, before Toby took it upon himself to go get the tea.
At least, that's what Lachlan thought he was doing. Until he returned with only one cup.
"Where's ours?" Lachlan asked.
He'd only known this guy for five minutes and already he didn't like him.
