Lachlan was sitting behind the greenhouses with his elbows propped up on his knees and his head in his hands. He felt... not awful, that wasn't it. Empty. Useless. He was well acquainted with the sensation and already knew there was nothing to be done.
If he was any kind of normal person, that would be the end of it. Maybe he could simply take to his bed, as he'd read so many people did, until it was over and continue with his life once he felt able to face the world again. But Lachlan could never be normal. No, some perverse part of him actually enjoyed this.
That was what brought him out to the greenhouses, where he could enjoy his pain in peace. Or at least, that's what he'd pretend to anyone who happened by. And he did hope someone would happen by. Preferably someone who knew Kai well enough for Lachlan's sulking to come up in casual conversation. The idea of Kai himself being the person to stumble upon him was not to be thought of.
