The sun beat down on Charlotte’s skin as she walked onto the Quidditch pitch. She peered up to the sky, seeing that there was no one else flying around. ‘Perfect,’ Charlotte thought. She had been hoping to have some time to focus on her flying and scoring skills. The Gryffindor Captain, Liz, had kindly requested that Charlotte spend some time practicing. Her game had been a bit off, which would only hinder the team. Charlotte could not let that happen, or she would be sitting on the bench while a reserve chaser took her spot.
Charlotte swung her right leg over her broomstick, with a quaffle tucked under her right arm. She kicked off from the ground, rising quickly. Her long chestnut hair whipped around her as she practiced some flying techniques - quick dodges, sharp turns, fast dives. A smile widened on her face as she gained more confidence darting across the pitch. She brought her broom to a stop, hovering close to the goals. She wound up her arm, tossing it through the hoops. The quaffle soared, seemingly effortless, through the middle hoop. Charlotte leaned forward, chasing to grab the descending quaffe.
After another twenty minutes of practicing, Charlotte landed on the far side of the pitch, sitting down on one of the benches. She was a bit out of breath from all her hard work. She closed her eyes, leaning back slightly, taking in a deep breath. Once she felt a bit more recovered, Charlotte planned to get some more flying time in. With the pitch being empty, it gave her the peace she needed to focus on regaining her previous abilities.

Carl liked quidditch. Now he would give it to you, he did not play it much but as for the sport he absolutely loved it. Normally when he came out there would be a lot of people here but today there was only one he noticed. He started not to take a seat but he did anyway.
Carl "Been out here long?"
He knew he needed practice. He had thought about dusting the old broom handle off so to say but he had no idea if he wanted to do that just yet.

Charlotte felt a presence near her, but she refused to open her eyes. Most people who came out to practice or play with their friends kept to themselves or the group they came with, so she doubted she needed to greet whoever was strolling by. She felt weight next to her on the bench, followed by someone speaking to her. She kept her eyes close for a few seconds longer before opening them. Her eyes locked onto a fairly familiar face. Charlotte had seen this brunette serpent around the castle before. He was a year before her, so they did not have classes together. Due to that very fact, his name escaped her.
Charlotte nibbled on her lower lip, hoping he would walk away and leave her in peace. She was almost certain that she looked like a deer in headlights. After a few excruciating moments, Charlotte realized that the Slytherin was not going to leave. She shrugged slightly, looking at him to address him. “I’ve been here a bit,” she commented, “It has been an empty pitch for the last couple of hours. I am about to finish up here, but if you are meeting some people for a quick game, I am more than happy to finish up practicing later…”
Her voice trailed off, but she was fairly certain that she sounded more confident and less shakey than she felt. Her heart pounded in her, social anxiety creeping in. Tucking her silky chestnut locks behind her ear, she looked over at the brunette waiting for his answer. If her memory served her right, this particular serpent thought very highly of himself. Charlotte braced herself for whatever his response was, not entirely confident it would something that she would want to hear.

The truth was due to his ways, mostly his attitude Carl did not hang around very many people because and yes this sounded cocky but it was the truth. Not many people could handle him. He was not sure why since he thought that he was what a lot of people needed in their lives. Carl "They can wait, if they even show up that is. There is honestly no reason for you to rush off." Sometimes when you were as confident as Carl it was hard to make real true friends but he figured he would try one day, but he was not sure today was the day. Carl "Are you sure you are okay though?" Charlotte visibly cringed as the serpent before her continued to speak. She was aching for him to move on and let her be in peace, but it became fairly obvious he was content speaking to her. She ran her right hand through her chestnut mane, her messy waves cascading down her back. Her gaze darted around the pitch, wondering what her next move would be. She finally spoke back to the Slytherin, "It's quite fine. When your friends show up, I will pack up."
She sucked in air standing up, assuming that their conversation was done. She picked up her quaffle and broomstick, hearing his voice again. Turning around, she faced the boy, her face expressionless, "I am fine," Charlotte spoke, only a slight hint of nerve in her voice. "Why do you ask?"
Charlotte mentally scolded herself for following her statement with a question. In an effort to get out of speaking to him much longer, "I'm Charlotte Beaumont, by the way." Perhaps he would not want to speak to her after hearing her last name. It was not news around Hogwarts that the beloved Beaumont family had lost their eldest child, Charlotte's brother and best friend. Nor was it a mystery why Charlotte had gone from a sweet, bubbly socialite without a care in the world, to a closed off and distant person. Even her friends had a hard time being around her after a while.

The truth was that he looked at the girl like a challenge. It was not even that he wanted to know about her he supposed, well in a way but with a name like Beaumont, there was no way you were not known. It did not mean that the truth was known necessarily however.
Carl "Yeah I know who you are. It's apart of the reason that I sat down."
He pegged her as interesting to say the least.
Carl "Your words say you are fine but your tone and body language.."
He trailed off. Secrets were secrets for a reason after all.
Carl "Don't rush off, let's play a game of quidditch."

Charlotte cocked a single eyebrow at the Slytherin as he spoke. She listened to him, inwardly cringing as he mentioned how her body language and tone gave way to how she truly felt. She rolled her eyes slightly at him, annoyed that this stranger seemed vaguely interested in finding more about her.
"Well, I'm glad to have been some sort of entertainment to you," Charlotte spat, her voice laced with sarcasm. She turned to stomp off, when he spoke to her again, asking for a game. Charlotte turned around, her hair whipping almost violently around her as she moved. The corners of her lips tugged up to a slight smile.
"This is going to be a very uneventful game, but I could use the practice," Charlotte half whispered, a blush creeping onto her face. She turned to hide her face and nibbled her lower lip nervously. Composing herself, she tossed the boy the quaffle.
"Sounds fun. I don't believe you told me your name," Charlotte flashed another smile, mounting her broom. She kicked off from the ground, knowing he would be quick to follow.

Carl always thought that everyone had perhaps untapped potential but that was not up for him to decide with others. None the less that did not mean that you could not have a little friendly competition. With that he kicked off on his broom. He always thought that there was a lot to anyone but that did not mean that they let everyone or anyone for that matter on to who they were. Once he caught up with her he spoke. Carl "Carl Granistun," he said to her. Carl "Some people have heard of me, some have not. That is neither here or there though. First to score wins good by you?" Charlotte Beaumont

Charlotte looked over her shoulder as the boy spoke. This boy - Carl Granistun - seemed harmless enough. It wasn't that Charlotte did not like people, she just found comfort in solidarity these days. Granted, most people remembered her as the fresh-faced, enthusiastic young girl that she was when she started at Hogwarts, but those days of social habits had long faded, along with the life of her brother.
Pushing any negative thoughts from her mind, she looked at Carl, nodding, "Sounds good, though I can't promise I'm going to be a worthy opponent...hence, why I am out here all by myself. If I don't get back to normal, I'm off the Gryffindor team."
With that, she leaned forward, quaffle underarm, speeding away. She zigzagged, hoping to lose him, though she was not sure where he was. Charlotte did not care, she rose, before going into a quick, controlled dive. Eventually, she looped towards the goals, her eyes darting around for Carl.

Sometimes when people were getting to know that something would be snatched away from them, Carl thought that even though it was unknown to them it made them better by default was how he mainly classified it. That was where he had Charlotte at right now. He figured maybne the teacher wanted her to try harder so they told her to get better or get off the team. Not that he was calling her the weakest link but maybe the teacher seen it that way. He swooped around behind her and caught her but just barely. He yelled, not at her in a mean way but more so a helpful way. Carl "You're going to want to be faster." She needed confidence in her moves, in how she played the game perhaps because right now that was not something that she was showing. Charlotte Beaumont

Charlotte noticed immediately when Carl caught up with her. She felt her pulse quicken, and she turned to look at him when he spoke. Rolling her eyes, she brought her broom to a halt and hovered. She readjusted the quaffle beneath her arm, before tossing it to Carl.
"I know, hence when I'm out here," Charlotte said slightly annoyed. She tucked her hair behind her ears, looking back at him. "You have a go."
Her tone was sharp, as she was annoyed with her performance, and tired from practicing for a few hours already. She looked around the pitch, "Where are your friends? Standing you up, eh?"

Carl "More than likely," and the worse part of it all was that he secretly hated it. It was not the fact that he needed friends, oh hell no he could do without them, but still. Just the thoughts of it angered him a little bit and he fell off of his broom though, which was completely embarrassing, especially since he hit the ground pretty hard. None the less he stood up. Carl "Well damn it, if that is not plain embarrassing." Charlotte Beaumont

Charlotte quirked a single eyebrow at Carl as he spoke. Clearly the friends thing was a touchy subject...not that she really understood. Those things did not bother her. Besides, she was much more of a hermit than most people at this point in her life, and really was fine with only a few daily interactions. She would find it disrespectful and a waste of her time to get ready at the pitch to have the people who had planned to play with her bail without warning. She furrowed her brow, looking back at Carl to see him fall of his broom.
Charlotte lowered herself to the ground, giggling slightly at Carl. Clearly he was incredibly frustrated. She hopped off her broom to offer him a hand, but he had already gotten up. Charlotte lifted her right eyebrow, a smirk forming on her face, "Well then, Carl, as you can see I think that one of us clearly needs this practice more."
She allowed a snort to escape her, as she walked to pick up the quaffle. She turned back to Carl, "So do you need to talk about it? What's your deal anyway?" Her tone was not exactly friendly, but still curious nonetheless.

Carl "I do not specifically need to talk about anything," he said in what was a nice attempt at politeness for him. The girl had not did anything wrong to him so at the moment he seen no reason to be rude. Was that a thing that people did to help themselves feel better about something? He imagined so but he did not want that to be the case with him. Carl "I only attempt to have friends in my life because I find that eventually regardless of if we want to admit it or not, they are something that we will need to be able to deal with as we get older. I do not want people to think that I am strange because I do not know how to deal with others if that makes sense. Why, don't you have any friends?" Charlotte Beaumont
