Murphy had begun growing displeased and unsatisfied with the current state of affairs. A bloody CENTAUR for Minister.. it was more than his brain could handle. He needed to work and act quick before any more nonsense came about this new appointment. The centaurs... were never much for logic. In fact, the new minister had spent his opening statement staring at the sky while the paparazzi surrounded him asking pressing questions. 'Mr. Minister what is the first thing you plan on doing in office?' 'the stars are bright'
'Mr. Minister what do you think about the current state of affairs regarding magical beings?' 'the stars are bright'
'Mr. Minister, how do you feel about being elected' 'the stars tonight, are bright' And that's how the press release went. It was absurd! The ministry really had to be knocking their heads together realizing what an awful mistake it was. And then they'd come begging to him, asking for help. Then what? Then would be too late. He had plans alright, and it was to see the Ministry burn. Burn a fiery rage of insanity. But first things first. Murphy cleared his throat, the tower had been rearranged to fit the scenery. Several long tables lay vertically down the center of the room, the remaining two tables sat horizontally on either side, with Murphy standing front and center. The students had already gathered around either side on bequest of him The students needed to learn now more than ever how to properly fight. "Welcome to your first Dueling lesson of the 101 series I plan to be covering personally" he looked down at the crowd sneering slightly at some of the faces. Scared.. gutless.. insolent fools. "Now before we begin, are there any questions?" he asked, staring down at them all, daring them to ask. he asked out of habit and didn't seriously expect anyone to ask nor did he want anyone to. They were here his battalion and like any good battalion might, he expected them all to listen obey, and not ask questions. (open to anyone interested in Dueling, We shall have duels shortly after I just wanted to put this up to get things set up woosh)

James and Helios sat right in front Helios with James' wand in his beak. He couldn't help himself though as his hand shot up and Helios flew up to avoid being hit. "Are we going to duel each other or you?" He asked. He was fine with either but was wanting to duel student more the the Headmaster. In all Honesty James respected yet feared the Headmaster, he was obviously more experienced then anyone in the school maybe even the former Auror Professor Drake.
Helios landed back on his shoulder after James had asked his question waiting patiently for an answer. He scanned around seeing faces of dread due to his asking a question. "Oh boy" He said realizing his mistake and bowing his head down low. "Nevermind" He said hiding a blush. he scolded himself
Your so stupid, Why would you ask a question. he scolded himself briefly

There was no reason for Lachlan to be here. Their house was not exactly the run-of-the-mill farmhouse and as such, it had its own duelling chamber. Their parents regularly broke wizarding law to ensure their children (even Isolda) were prepared for the worst of the wizarding world.
So of course Lucia wanted to show off her skills. She was going to get them all in so much trouble.
Fortunately, before The Murphy could really get started, King piped up. Lachlan stepped on the guy's foot.
"Don't give him ideas," he hissed.

Accord would not say that she was interested in dueling but she thought that knowing how to do it might be in her so called best interest and still she did not really want to be here. Still she was and she was not going to complain because she not only knew better but she wanted to be a good person eventually.
She was trying to listen to The Murphy when she slightly spotted the interaction between the two boys. She shook her head but not in a disapproving way just in an interested way and continued to listen. After all what was the true harm that could come her way? Okay lots but who cared about that right now.

He hissed in anger drawing his wand from Helios' mouth putting it to the slytherin's throat. "Stomp on my foot again and I will curse you back to the second war" He growls. He locks eyes with him and then shoves him backwards towards Accord not on purpose but oh well.
He walked forward and smiled "On second thought..." He looked up to Murphy "Can me and Lachlan settle a problem through a duel" He gave an evil grin and looked at Lachlan "Or are you scared" Perfect right at the ego, He congratulated himself. "I can totally understand if you are" He says smiling

It was hardly a stomp, but Lachlan didn't think that would change King's mind. He just blinked as the other boy's wand rested against his throat. Really, King didn't need to curse him back to anywhere; a cutting charm would do the trick just as well.
But as Lachlan had been banking on, the other boy didn't have the heart for it, shoving him away instead. He stumbled back, narrowly missing taking out Accord Strife by dropping onto his other foot in a messy ball-change.
Lachlan had thought the scuffle was over, except for Murphy bawling them out and assigning detentions because of course he would, when King just had to speak again.
He didn't even bother to reply to the goading. Regardless of whether he was "scared" or not, The Murphy would doubtless have him up on that platform in a moment.

[ uniform. ] Anything planned by Murphy was bound to be some sort of disaster. For example, the current redecoration of the castle; the Dark Arts course that popped up on the curriculum; their school career as a whole, really. Granted, there hasn't really been a boring day with the creepy old man around, so Jasper could at least look forward to that. He'd rather be entertained than live confined to rules, even if that simply meant he could dabble in the restricted section without worry. As well, of course, as the fact that Murphy seemed to enjoy the idea of kids killing each other. Jasper couldn't help but appreciate that level of anarchy. Standing within the crowd, his gloved thumb and forefinger clasping his chin, he listened carefully to the Headmaster's words. " Personally." James King's question didn't seem so outlandish when the man worded it like that. Jasper wasn't a fool, he knew his limitations, and something told him that not even a dozen of the finest students in this hellhole could best Murphy. There was a reason he as the way he was, and the Ravenclaw was curious. Wary of investigation, but interested enough to maybe risk it someday. There was a stir, and King suddenly seemed a bit ruffled. " Or are you scared," he said, as if Lachlan would fall for such a low tier taunt. "Save the testosterone, we don't care about your ego," Jasper quipped toward the Gryffindor, black eyes glaring over. A low sigh escaped him, the hypermasculinity that was involved in duels was nothing short of unbearable.

Kaleb swiped his hair out of his face as he listened to the headmaster's words. Dueling was something he wanted to do and if this was actually giving him permission then this was exactly where he needed to be. He turned his attention for a second to the guys speaking. He started to join in on the little quip but decided mostly against it.
Also as he listened to the headmaster he did wonder just how twisted said headmaster was and if it could get any worse. He thought that he would fear for his life if it got any worse but for now he was okay.

Murphy watched as the scene unfolded before him, fighting arguing, and immature antics. Under normal circumstances, he'd actually encourage that bout of violence, but now was not the time for that. No no no, not when he was on stage. When the obnoxious gryffindor twat asked to get partnered for dueling he nearly laughed.
"Ahh you know what would be better?" he quipped at the boy, finding it hard to hide the malicious grin that was now forming on his face, "hows about a little target practice, get the wands flowing.. you know" he nodded "a live.. living target. James?" he inquired threateningly, although now that it'd left his mouth it actually did seem like a good idea. Like killing two birds with one stone, a little punishment plus practice time...
no.
It was too early for all them. next time.
"Dueling, as I was saying" he cast a glare in James's direction to warn him from disrupting the class any further "Is quite simple. Two people, two wands, and then the rest is all up in the air." he nodded thoughtfully and began pacing up and down the platform, carrying an air as he did, he'd always enjoyed dueling, the violence, and the sheer thrill of it all. He wanted his pupils to learn properly, none of that sissy shit he saw in 'competitions' "Sure there are rules but nobody follows those. Wars weren't won by lining up and taking aim, they were won by strategic planning.. surprise assaults that kinda stuff.."
He stopped pacing so he was now standing right up front and center and continued,
"Now before any duel, one must bow before their opponent. Does anybody know why that's so? ... anyone?" he asked, rhetorically but he was sure somebody would be stupid enough to answer. They always were. Snivveling brats.

Did he just say surprise assaults? The headmaster was about to assault them wasn't he? It was a school of magic after all. She could see it now, he could pull out something to more than likely dismantle every one of them and no one would dare as to be so bold as to say anything either way and well the students would not be able to speak up for themselves because they would be dead.
She swallowed hard thinking about answering his question but decided to just duck her head for the time being. She thought about praying but if you asked her if she believed in heaven or hell she would have never came here. Nope, let some other idiot take the headmaster's bullet in the form of a question but not her.

He nodded and gave his wand back to Helios. Idiot he chastised himself. He looked down at his feet deciding that would be the best place to keep his eyes the rest of the class. Better to act stupid then to get punished. He heard the question not saying the answer aloud Respect to an opponent He thought to himself before he stepped back into the crowd away from Lachland. He sat down in the back on a bench.
Christ he was stupid. Not only did he ask a question he acted like a jerk. He sat forward a bit an still staring at his feet. He just stared not looking at anything really. He wasn't mad just embarrassed. He shrugged as he sat up looking ahead staring off into space.

Caelani knew she shouldn't, but she just couldn't help herself. It was historical. And anyone else who answered would get it so, so wrong.
"Duelling was originally restricted to purebloods," she said loudly. "You bowed to show respect for someone of the same status as yourself."
She paused, smirking, to allow that to sink into everyone's consciousness. Caelani was confident that most of the people here had only ever been taught the watered down version of this.
"Technically, if a pureblood is duelling a muggleborn, they don't have to bow," she drawled.
"Of course, we're all beyond that kind of pettiness now, I'm sure."

Judge snuck in because at this very moment he was supposed to have a project due in Muggle studies. The one time he had actually went to that class he landed a project. The score however was much sweeter, dueling and it was being taught by The Murphy! Double bonus. The Slytherin took a seat beside Caelani Bittel and caught the end of her answer. She sounded confident with her answer, with his pen he jotted that down. This was his dream, his sport, and the sheer thought that it would eat his parents asses was a frightening comfortable thought.

Murphy looked into the crowd, the sound of silence and absolute submission. It was like music to his ears. No student dared to utter a single word, while their faces spoke volumes. They said 'please oh mighty headmaster don't kill us'. He scoffed, rather proud of himself and was about to go on with an answer when one lone student dared to break the silence. He stared silently, dumbfounded at the smugness in her voice, he knew her type. The good ol' pureblood hokeydokeys who thought they knew everything. He'd never been one for blood, having had questionable background himself, but still.. he'd never outwardly hated them for it. Just found their arrogance particularly annoying. "Wrong" he added rather curtly at the very textbooky-answer. Hmph. "We begin a duel by bowing to size our opponents up. Beginning from the long walk, then down to the bow, you can read what type of person your opponent is, if he dares to stare you down as he walks you know that he's out for blood. If his eyes are downcast, he's weak and will most likely begin with a defensive spell." He'd dueled many times in his life, having acquired a talent for it, and it was through anticipating what came next based on reading your opponent, without that it seemed more like a game of luck than anything else, which meant the odds were anything but in your favor. "After the bow you will have a moment to gather your mind, as you walk back to the other side of the podium. Use this moment wisely, and never hesitate once you turn around. Don't think your opponent will show you the courtesy of a count of announcing his start. This is a fight not a game" he stressed. It was true, many people, particularly weak ones, seemed to harbor this fantasy like idea of how the Duel worked. He needed the students to know better. "Now, Unless there's anymore questions, we'll begin with a duel so I can see where you all are at. I will be pairing you up, I don't want to hear requests or any of that nonsense" he exchanged a glare at James in particular and then continued "Take a look at the guidelines on the wall while you're waiting, and prepare yourselves." ( Note: I just wanted to get ahead with the pairing ups so that everyone has a partner by Monday, This thread ISN'T closed off after this post or after I've paired people. Feel free to post here as if you've always been here and I'll get you paired with someone, if no one is available you'll get paired with one of my students
The dueling rules are still a bit rough so uhh if you have any questions or confusions I can try and work it out before a duel and during..
Sorry this message is long. Love you all I forgot to mention that winning a duel will gain housepoints ! )

[ uniform. ] As with every time students were grouped up like this, antics were immediately sprouting about. Albeit, this time, it was a lot more detained, possibly due to the creep before them, but it was enough to clearly warrant that greasy sneer of his. And Ana absolutely hated it. But her sneering back was simply a typical thing she did with most people, and she was likely beneath him in his eyes. Or whatever. All men with power trips were the same, and all of them were just like her father. That was enough to insight nerd rage from within her, in the very least. So this duel could go surprisingly well, for her at least. Pity the unfortunate soul that was paired with her. Caelani said something so uppity that Ana rolled her eyes, but she wouldn't honestly be surprised that it was true. The makeups of wizarding society were so absolutely boring and fictitious and full of shit. But, one thing was true about all of wizard history: They loved inbreeding, and hated everything else. "Wrong," Murphy said. A malicious grin spread across Ana's pale face, and she gave Caelani a pointed look, to 1.) Show how funny it was to her that Caelani was so called out in front of all these people, and to 2.) Send her regrets; how unbelievable was it that he could just say she was wrong. Like, where did he get off on smacking a teenager down like that? Ego problems, much? What an absolute overgrown loser. Hell, even if it was a bit full of it, Caelani was likely, at least historically, right. But, she turned back to the Headmaster, waiting patiently for her duel partner. Although, with the scowl on her face, one could easily assume she was ready for a blood bath.
