Daniyah was always sad to see the changing of seasons, where the world turned from its brilliant shades of flaming cardinal and soft ochre, that on days like these where the breeze was mild and the sun poked its rays out tentatively from the cloud cover she would spend the afternoons lazing about on the Hogwarts grounds in her own solitude despite being a social creature in nature. Besides, she had a free study period this particular afternoon and had planned to be perfectly productive with her time... that was, at least, until she had caught a peek of the outside world while passing through the school's courtyard and nature had sung to her it's sweet siren song.
So she had staked her claim in a grassy area slightly inland from the Black Lake. It was close enough to see The Giant Squid's tentacles break water and unfurl at the waters surface where she sprawled facing the sky, watching as the clouds drifted by at their own leisurely pace. Tiny blades of grass poked through the back of her robes but she paid them no mind, going as far as to kick off her loafers and wiggle her toes in their newfound freedom. After several moments she drifted, waking up what felt like moments later to a big fat water drop plopping itself onto her forehead.
"Oh...!" That plop had been the first of many, Daniyah suddenly finding herself caught outside in the midst of a torrential waterfall. Quickly she leaped up from her place of slumber and gathered her belongings before sprinting across the grounds in her bare feet. Reasoning that the entrance to the castle was a good mile away, she instead opted to seek refuge within the boathouse.
Winded, she nearly collapsed into the structure's arches as the rain cascaded from the small buildings rooftop. Now wet and cold she wondered just how long she had dozed.

The library had been uncharacteristically quiet that afternoon.
Caoimhe had spent her time putting the finishing touches on a set of hemp bracelets she’d made for her siblings, her gift-giving excitement growing by the minute; when the last hour of the school day finally drew to a close, the merrow uncrossed her legs, hopped off her desk, and began stowing away her creations in a wooden box for safe travels to the Lake. She’d worked on the bracelets for the better part of a month, taking great pains to select the right assortment of beads for each bracelet, and she was immensely proud of her handiwork. Each of her twenty five siblings would be getting one; in addition to the beads, she’d braided a shell from the sea (their original home), a pebble from the Lake (their current home), and a small chunk of Hogwarts brick (her current home) as a sort of reminder that even though they were living separate lives, they were all still connected. She couldn’t wait to see their faces when they opened the box!
The little merrow sprinted from the castle, her skirt flapping in a brisk afternoon wind that was currently terrorizing the grounds. Odd, the sky had looked so happy just a few hours ago. Oh well, a little rain never hurt anyone, least of all a Scottish mermaid. When she reached the shore of the Black Lake, a flat piece of rock nestled against a waterlogged tree trunk caught her attention almost immediately. Caoimhe and her family used the trunk to deliver messages to one another, and as she approached, her excitement turned to sadness as she turned the rock over in the water; someone had scratched a giant X into the rock’s surface and left it there for her to find. The message was loud and clear: Her family was not coming, not today.
As the first raindrops fell from the sky, Caoimhe felt her chest well with tears She had been so looking forward to giving her siblings their bracelets and now she must wait for them to contact her to arrange another meeting, which could take days or even months. Her family wasn’t the best at communicating with her; it was at times like this were the merrow wondered if they would have remembered her at all if it wasn’t for her frequent messages stowed in the waterlogged trunk. Crestfallen and defeated, the little merrow couldn’t fight back the feelings of loneliness as they began to creep into her heart. She turned her back on the Lake and started to head towards the castle as the rain raged on around her, the box of bracelets weighing heavy in her hands.
It was only when she saw a flash of colour dart into the boathouse that she decided to take a detour.
“Daniyah!” she cried, immensely relieved to discover that the stranger had not been a stranger at all. “I am happy it is you I am seeing. Why are you outside in a storm? You are looking very wet.”

Waterlogged and listless, Daniyah shed her now heavy school robes and Ravenclaw jumper from her narrow physique and let them drop to the ground. It was cold now and being soaked to the bone further encumbered the usually lively Ravenclaw. Brushing several pin straight strands of dark saturated hair from her face she let out a lamenting moan, the sound echoing off the cold stone walls of the boat house. What would she do now?! Frowning she attempted to remember if she had learned any drying spells, wishing desperately now more than ever that Hogwarts had offered some sort of magical home economics class. It was those kind of practical spells that she was at a loss for. Wringing out her uniform's skirt she felt a shudder slither itself through her limbs.
But when she heard a voice she jumped, startled, caught off guard and quite frankly rather vulnerable. Her white button down left very little to the imagination in its sodden state, so when she turned around and saw Caoimhe she let out a long sigh of relief.
"My goodness, it's only you. I thought for a second I was caught indecent by a stranger... though it wouldn't be the first time," she said with a frigid uneven laugh. Her lips had grown pale and goose pimples sprung up and dotted themselves all over her body. "I fell asleep," she explained looking rather abashed. "It was so nice out and I couldn't help myself honestly. I thought I would get some studying done outside and I suppose I got just a bit too comfortable."
Dismissing any signs of modesty in front of her friend she unrolled her pantyhose and tossed them in a pile with the rest of her wet clothes. "What about you? It's a bit late to be walking The Grounds, isn't it?"

James came out of the lake smiling as he avoided the squid's tentacles as Helios flew from the sky landing on the ground across from him. "How long" Mumbled james as Helios let out 5 caws "Five hours that's it" He grumbled frowning. He pulled himself off the dock not caring about the rain but obviously Helios did. "C'mon I saw a boat house on our way down." He said frowning. "So a combination of the bubble head charm and impervious didn't work" He mumbled to himself as he looked around his dry pockets pulling out a piece of paper writing in it "I went about 100 feet before pressure kicked in" He mumbled as he scribbled away.
He approached the boat house as Helios flew in first taking shelter from the rain. He let out a screech as he saw Daniyah and Caoimhe inside. The bird looked at Daniyah and let out another screech as he flew to the door before James could fully enter. Helios began flapping in his face trying to cover his eyes. "What the hell you stupid chicken" He shouted as he smacked his arms at him trying to push him away.
He drew his wand from his leather holder on his shoulder. "confundus" He hissed as the bird hit the ground then looked around confused. James looked up to see Daniyah. "WOAH!" He said turning around instantly. "Didn't realize this spot was taken."

After two years living on land, the little merrow still could not get used to the difference in temperature. The Black Lake was always cool and serene and perfect; in comparison, Hogwarts was stifling and warm and uncomfortable, and Caoimhe usually wore as little clothing as the dress code would allow. Today was no exception, and as she stood beneath the shelter of the boathouse with water dripping from the short sleeves of her t-shirt, she could feel the chill of early January air on her skin, and all was good in the world. She turned to Dani, smiled, and was about to comment on how lovely the weather was when she noticed that her eagle friend was not nearly having as much fun dealing with the aftermath of being rained out as she was.
"What about you? It's a bit late to be walking The Grounds, isn't it?"
“Your lips are shaking,” the lioness observed, brows furrowing in concern. She glanced around the boathouse for something to drape over Dani’s shoulders, a blanket preferably, but at this point, Caoimhe would take just about anything; her friend looked cold and miserable, and if there was one thing the little merrow had learned about humans, it was that they didn’t deal with the cold very well. “I am spending some time at the Lake when the rain is falling, and I am feeling lonely, and am seeing someone running in here and I am adventuring to see who it is.”
Against the far wall were a set of battered and dusty trunks, and Caoimhe hurried over to see if any of them contained something for her eagle friend. The fifth year knelt in the dust before the first trunk, a smattering of dirt and dead leaves sticking to her rain-slick knees as she opened the heavy lid and peered inside.
“Daniyah, it is perfect!” Caoimhe exclaimed as she reached into the trunk and began pulling out a handful of old moth-eaten blankets. “Now we can be getting all warm and--”
Before the merrow could finish her sentence, she was interrupted by the sudden and unexpected arrival of another student who wandered into their midst.
“Hello yes hi,” the merrow greeted as she straightened before rushing to Dani’s side and setting all but one of the blankets on the edge of a nearby boat; she shook out the one in her hand and wrapped the eagle in its scratchy embrace. “They are smelling on the funny side but they are better than being wet, yes?”
Ensuring Dani had been taken care of, she turned to the newcomer and gestured at the remaining blankets.
“Are you wanting a cozy too?”
Humans were so fragile in the cold.

Daniyah listened tentatively to Caoimhe. In truth, she appreciated the girls individuality. While others were wrapped up in the dramatics of their teenage years, Caoimhe remained a constant. Sweet, unique, soft and kindhearted. Her fair appearance and particular soft musical inflections put the teenage girl at ease even when life quite literally rained on her parade. She didn't know the girls past, her ambitions, but she wondered about them frequently in a way that Dani rarely appreciated in others. "I don't think most people enjoy nature walks in the rain Caoimhe. You are certainly the odd duck," she commented, but it wasn't meant as an insult. She shifted on the cold stone floor, her toes chilled and uncomfortable. Thankfully, the Gryffindor was perceptive and set to work digging through the grubby trunks that held the blankets used by the first years when first being initiated to Hogwarts. "But I'm glad for your company none the less. Being stranded in the midst of a storm with good company is always better than being stranded alone." As she spoke a familiar bird had suddenly dropped into the conversation, followed shortly by the taken aback familiar face of James King . When he spun around as if to preserve Dani's modesty she let out a juvenile giggle. Caoimhe draped a bedraggled moss colored wool blanket over her shoulders and she pulled the coarse corners until her entire body was swathed in fabric. "Come now James, I'm sure a worldly fellow like you has seen women in much more racy situations," she teased, making light of what was surely an embarrassing moment for the teenage boy. Caoimhe Uisce

He held up one finger "One any girl i have seen in a racy situation has consented to me seeing them like that." He stated "Respecting women is key" He then looked to Caiomhe "No I'm fine I have the impervious charm working on me" He says smiling to himself still facing away "Am I ok to turn around yet?" He asked.
Helios flew up behind him sitting on his shoulder gripping the leather shoulder protecter. He let out a crow and hunkered down with a content smile. James petted the birds back softly and set him down on a crate next to him. "Sorry if I interupted Helios hates the rain.
